Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Nicci Julian Lancaster of Georgetown

We recently had the chance to connect with Nicci Julian Lancaster and have shared our conversation below.

Nicci, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Mom and bakery owner life-waking up at bakers hours to start work and take care of my fun loving daughter. We start with breakfast, walks, baking time, decorating, shopping, answering emails, playtime at the park, reading books…it never ends and I love it!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Nicci Julian, owner of Confectious Pastry Shop. I started Confectious ten years ago in Southern California. in 2022, we expanded to Austin (Georgetown location).
Confectious is known for all custom cakes and desserts. We also create gluten free, and vegan items.
Last year, we completed and delivered to two hundred weddings.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mom was a huge supporter of my baking career at an early age. She passed in 2014, but I remember her screen saver as a young photo of me in a chefs hat taking a baking lesson at Sur la Table.
She was there to take me to Culinary School at, The Culinary Institute of America, Greystone (CIA).

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
When we moved to Austin, I had multiple tabs opened on my computer as back up careers just in case Confectious did not take off.
Little did I know, I would be the busiest I have ever been in my entire career.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is definitely the real version of me. I enjoy and absolutely love what I do-baking, selling cakes, meeting with clients, traveling, and being a mom and wife.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
I am working on a chocolate project. With the Dubai chocolate fad, I am now working on a chocolate bar line-more details to come.
