Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Nick Thomas of The West Village

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Nick Thomas. Check out our conversation below.

Nick, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What battle are you avoiding?
I think like a lot of creative people my biggest battle is myself. Allowing myself to give myself a break, the hardest thing I face everyday is allowing myself downtime, allowing my self to rest and recharge. We live in a world where we feel the constant demand to always be pushing and always be producing

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an actor, writer and theatre producer, I work primarily with spit&vigor theatre co. We produce new and independent theatre as well as operate a small black box theatre which we offer at a discount rate to help other small theatre companies find a place to produce their shows.
I also work as a freelance writer and reviewer.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
I think I saw very early that hard work pays off. My very first job was working in a grocery store when I was fifteen years old. When I first started there I was give only three hours a week and another teenager who had been there longer had thirteen hours a week, with in three months I had all the hours and that other person was let go, not from anything other than I worked harder and I was rewarded.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Like so many of us in so many fields a lack of self confidence has always held me back, It was a lot harder to deal with as a younger man but the older I get the less I care about what others think and follow my heart and instincts and it seems to be working out pretty well.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think my friends would say the thing I care most about is my pet rabbits and thats true I love them more than anything, but also my work, I love being a creative person and strive to create as much as I can with the time I have.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
Money. Or let me clarify, money gained from lack of trying. Getting money that I did not work for holds a lots less value and means a lot less than money that I have worked hard for or earned.
