We recently had the chance to connect with Pooja Photography and have shared our conversation below.
Pooja, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Pets are my spirit animals—literally! 🐾 The connection I feel with them is so real. That’s why volunteering my time and camera to capture shelter and rescue cuties fills me with so much joy. The funny thing? By the end, I swear it’s not them getting rescued—it’s us. Because the love, the wiggles, the sloppy kisses… they give way more than they take. Now that’s happiness on four paws, don’t you think?
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We often hide behind what empowers us the most. For many, that’s their story — the parts of themselves they’ve never fully seen or celebrated. I’m Pooja, and through my lens, I help bring those stories to light.
I believe a great portrait should feel like you. Not the perfectly posed, forced-smile version, but the real, confident, joy-filled you. That’s what I chase with my camera every single day.
My goal is simple; to create images that make you stop, smile, and say, “Yes… that’s me.”
For me, photography isn’t just about the click of a shutter — it’s about connection, trust, and telling your story in a way that not only is meaningful but also that lasts forever.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
TIME. Making time for moments that are important is the key. Lack of that can turn everything amazing into worthless!
Often it’s the time & little gestures, not the grand ones, that rebuild connection.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
A few years ago, a biking accident changed everything in a heartbeat. I shattered my shoulder in multiple places, and the long months of surgeries and therapy left me wondering if my dream was gone for good. I honestly believed I’d never again be able to lift my camera or work with the heavy studio lights that help me create the portraits my clients love.
In the middle of that uncertainty, a wise woman told me something I’ve carried with me ever since: “Never make big decisions in the prime of an emotional state.” Those words became my anchor. They reminded me to pause, to heal, and to trust that my passion for storytelling through photography would find its way back to me.
Today, every time I pick up my camera, I’m reminded not just of resilience—but of why I do this work. To create portraits that hold meaning. To freeze moments that outlast the hard seasons. To show others that even after life knocks you down, beauty can still be captured.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
“The camera does all the work.” – More expensive the camera, the better the photos.
It’s that idea that great photos are simply the result of owning an expensive camera or using a trendy filter.
In reality, the magic isn’t in the gear—it’s in the vision, direction, connection, and storytelling a photographer brings.
A $5,000 camera can still capture flat, forgettable images in the wrong hands. But a skilled photographer can take an ordinary setting and turn it into something extraordinary—because they know how to pose, light, guide, and make their subject feel seen.
This lie hurts clients, too, because it makes them underestimate the value of hiring someone who knows how to capture their personality, confidence, and brand in a way that truly connects.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Worrying. Control is mostly an illusion, and the “what ifs” steal more joy than life ever will. If I had 10 years left, I’d trade fear for presence, and live each moment like it’s the best page in my story.
