Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Ranjit Arul Singh

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Ranjit Arul Singh. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Ranjit, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
GYM. Started in November, and now it has grown into a place where I can clear my mind.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Ranjit Arul Singh, a Chennai-born filmmaker working across directing, writing, editing, and color grading. After completing my MFA in Film, I began my career at Company 3 in an entry-level role before moving into creating my films, such as Maria and Legs. I also run Page Eighty Seven, my production company based in Chennai, India. What makes my journey unique is wearing multiple hats, balancing the creative and technical sides of filmmaking, which allows me to tell stories with both authenticity and precision. Right now, I’m working on ADRA, an indie horror project that pushes me to explore new ways of blending atmosphere and emotion.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
The thrill of standing on set and guiding a story forward with just “Action” and “Cut.”

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
“Never ever give up”. A 0.1% shot is still a shot, and that makes all the difference. Even if you fail, it is not the end of the world. Keep trying until you make it.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Film! Cinema! Movies!

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
“He never gave up. He was focused and determined”
