Rikki Brockett shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Rikki, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Who are you learning from right now?
I find that I learn so much from my clients. Each person brings a unique perspective, and those experiences not only help me serve them better but also give me the chance to grow and understand myself in new ways. I really value that exchange and how it shapes both my work and my personal growth.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Rikki Brockett, the owner of Wild River Studios, a salon and retail space built around creativity, connection, and helping people feel their best. What makes us unique is that we’re not just about great hair—we’re about creating an experience where clients feel seen, valued, and inspired. My journey has been about blending artistry with authenticity, and I love that every client interaction teaches me something new. Right now, I’m focused on growing our brand in ways that build community and empower both our stylists and clients to express themselves fully.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was younger, I often felt like I had to stay quiet and color inside the lines that were placed in front of me. Over time, I’ve come to see that those lines were never permanent—they were only limits I accepted. As an adult, I’ve learned that we have the power to create or erase those boundaries for ourselves, and that realization has given me the freedom to trust my own voice, follow my creativity, and live more authentically.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
For a long time, I saw my pain as something to hide from or push down. It felt heavy, like it was holding me back. But over time (especially once I had my children), I began to realize that my pain carried lessons, resilience, and strength. Instead of fearing it, I started listening to it—using it as a guide and a source of power. That shift allowed me to grow, to create, and to step into a version of myself that’s stronger and more authentic than I ever imagined.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
One belief I’m deeply committed to—no matter how long it takes—is that real change and growth come from authenticity and truly diving into yourself. Whether in my personal life, my work, or my brand, I’m devoted to creating spaces where people feel seen, valued and open to meeting themselves. We can only meet people as deeply as we’ve met ourselves. That’s not a quick project, it’s a lifelong commitment.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
Legacy is not something I’ve given much thought to. I suppose my hope is that people know how much I believe in them. I truly believe deeper than anything that humanity is capable of extraordinary things. People have an incredible capacity for love, compassion, patience, and kindness.
What an honor it would be for someone to remember that another believed in them so fiercely, they dedicated themselves to a career pursuant to helping you find that belief in themselves.
