Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Robert Delgadillo of Southern California

Robert Delgadillo shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Robert, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
A lot of people in this generation have come to understand what it means to have empathy however it tends to affect those that open themselves up to understand. This starts to create a false sense of responsibility for another’s situation and can cause an increase of anxiety, even when one knows they have no control.
Personal peace needs be the main priority in order to continue to be empathetic and have a genuine impact. I believe peace is where strength is found and strength is the foundation of dependability.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Robert Lynn Delgadillo, but I go by Bobby’s Soul on all music platforms. Bobby’s Soul is more than just a name—it represents the fusion of my personal identity and my inner spirit, coming together to create a timeless record of my journey on this earth. My music blends the soul influences of the 1900s with the pop sensibilities of the 2000s, crafting a sound that’s both nostalgic and fresh.
In 2024, I founded Octave Agency LLC, born out of years of collaborating with artists and refining my understanding of artist development. Today, the company is focused on empowering artists by providing music education, marketing expertise, and helping them achieve financial and creative independence.
Currently, we’re preparing for our 9th event in California, with plans to expand to other states. One of our main goals is to grow our “crowd-sourced artist collective,” providing artists with the tools and resources to create impactful content and reach broader audiences.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I’ve always been a performer. From the time I was just three years old, the stage became where I could truly express myself, bringing joy to others through lip-sync performances at Pine Ridge Elementary. That early spark grew into a deep desire to create my own music—something that would allow me to genuinely connect with the audience and feel whole in my performance. The world often tells me to do it for myself, to be selfish in my pursuit, but I’ve come to realize that I only truly feel fulfilled when I’m sharing that joy and energy with others. It’s the connection, the shared experience, that makes it all meaningful.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to never doubt your potential and to trust in your journey, even when things feel uncertain. I’d remind him that happiness and inner peace should always be the priority, and that it’s okay to choose what truly nourishes your soul. Life will throw challenges your way, but if you stay grounded in who you are and what makes you whole, everything else will fall into place.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
I rely on the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
Yes, there have definitely been times when I got what I thought I wanted, only to realize it didn’t bring the lasting satisfaction I expected. I think this is a good example of what’s called hedonic adaptation—the idea that we quickly get used to positive changes or achievements, and over time, the excitement or fulfillment they bring fades. For example, I’ve worked hard toward certain goals, only to find that once I reached them, the initial happiness didn’t last as long as I thought it would. It’s a reminder that happiness and contentment don’t always come from external accomplishments, but from how we approach and appreciate the present moment.
