We recently had the chance to connect with Roland Alright Slash Turner and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Roland Alright, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
“Right now, a normal day for me is all about the grind and the music. I’m up early and in the studio for 10+ hours a day, locked in and creating nonstop. Whether I’m producing beats, recording artists, or mixing down tracks, I’m constantly pushing to capture the energy and spirit of New Orleans bounce. It’s more than just a sound — it’s a movement, and I treat every day like it’s an opportunity to elevate it to the next level. The creativity doesn’t stop, and neither do I.”
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Roland Turner, professionally known as Alright Slash — a proud New Orleans native and celebrity bounce music producer. I began my musical journey at just 7 years old, and over time I’ve evolved into not only a producer, but also a songwriter, artist, and dancer. The name “Slash” represents the many creative roles I play — I’m a true multi-talent in this industry.
My brand is deeply rooted in the rich cultural legacy of New Orleans bounce music. What sets me apart is the way I infuse tradition with innovation — keeping the authentic bounce sound alive while pushing it forward with fresh energy and creativity. Through my production, performances, and collaborations, I contribute to the culture by making sure our sound continues to evolve while staying true to its roots.
I’m constantly working on new music and projects that shine a light on New Orleans talent and bring bounce to new audiences. For me, it’s bigger than music — it’s about representing my city, preserving our culture, and making sure the world feels the heartbeat of New Orleans in every beat I create.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I’m deeply grateful to my cousin, 9th Ward Tea, who saw something in me long before I could see it in myself. He took me under his wing and showed me the ropes of being a New Orleans bounce producer, not just teaching me the craft, but instilling a sense of belief and purpose in me. His guidance was the spark that lit the fire, and I carry that with me every time I step into the studio.
I also have to give the utmost love and credit to my wife, Erionne – also known as Jst Eri Speaks – who’s not only my life partner but my artist and constant source of strength. She is the backbone of my grind, the reason I go hard every single day like it’s day one. Her belief in me, her drive, and her talent push me to keep growing and striving. I’m blessed to have people in my corner who saw my potential even when I couldn’t, and I don’t take that for granted.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You been that producer. Even before the beats hit, before the shows, before anyone said your name — the greatness was already in you. Don’t second-guess your sound or your style; what you’re bringing to the culture is different, and that’s your power. Keep pushing, stay hungry, and don’t let up — you’re not just part of the bounce movement, you’re shaping it. You’re at the top… act like it, walk like it, and produce like it. Always.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, I am the same — both in public and behind the scenes. What you see is what you get. I believe in staying true to myself, whether I’m in the studio or out in the world. The energy I bring, the passion I have for my craft, and the drive I carry are all a reflection of who I am, inside and out.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I understand that everyone is someone. Every person has value, potential, and a story — even if the world hasn’t recognized it yet. We were all once that “nobody” trying to be seen, trying to be heard, trying to get a shot. That’s why I move with respect and make space for others. I give chances, because someone gave me mine. I know what it feels like to be overlooked, and I also know what can happen when just one person believes in you. That’s a mindset I’ll never lose.
