Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Rudy Reed of Manhattan

We recently had the chance to connect with Rudy Reed and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Rudy, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I’ve just completed two projects. One was styling a jewelry campaign. It would be my second consecutive year working with the brand. Asking me to come back to collaborate with them was a great feeling.

The second project was with a photographer I have an ongoing work relationship with. The concept and mood were solely ours. Bringing our visions to life I find very rewarding.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Rudy Reed, a New York based Wardrobe Stylist and Writer who has had the honor of working in both fields for over 25 years.

What makes my job unique is that it allows me to veer off in separate sectors. One minute I can be shopping for and styling a private client, the next I can be working with models on location or set for an editorial. It keeps what I do exciting.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
During my younger years, I lived in Atlanta Ga. While there I was more introverted and shy. Now a resident of New York for multiple decades, I have come out of my shell, and have become more ambitious and courageous.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Get out of your own head. Everything will be ok. Dont be afraid to take leaps. Others are going through similar personal struggles. You are not alone when it comes to self doubt but make sure you’re not consumed by it.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
I would say that I’m the same version of myself in public as well as private. Although I do have a very social life and many of those I interact with may not see the certain aspects of my personality.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace soaking in the tub for an extended amount of time, listening to my favorite songs of various genres. It gives me time to relax and also decompress. I also think a lot while soaking. I find it therapeutic.
