We recently had the chance to connect with Samantha Salmeron and have shared our conversation below.
Samantha, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Absolutely! Last month I threw an album release party for my latest project “The One W the Horns” in Woodside, Queens NY! It was a total success. I decorate the venue myself, and had goodie bags available for those who RSVP’d. we even had catering and infused baked goods upon arrival. However, it wasn’t until I saw the footage back of the night and realized how influential and professional I appeared. I worked very hard to craft myself. I’m grateful to have people in the crowd singing my songs.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Samantha Soledad Salmeron (AKA SOLA) and I am an actress, songstress, poetess, & mystic. I am currently based in New York and have been performing my original music in underground venues all throughout the city! Currently I’m focused on sharing my unique voice amongst the many artists I’ve met this year. I am very passionate about progressive themes, and love to genre blend music. I bring a fresh sound that is inimitable & an authentic storytelling style that is specific to me yet relatable to many. My latest project “The One W the Horns” (T1WTH) is a testament to my commitment of being able to make art that exists outside of current trends and expectations. It is a fusion of melodic rap and experimental Latin themes. My good girl, gone mala moment. I cover topics of toxicity in love, my journey as an artist, and my challenges of being a “no sabo” kid. I have batted with my identity as a Latin American woman, and have finally accepted my place in the community. I have no shame. I connect the most to my Latin culture through music. I know there are people out there who can relate to me. I’m doing this for them. We need representation. It’s a “Spanglish” album.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My mother. She taught me how to hustle and make do with every opportunity I was given. She taught me how to show up professionally and how to carry myself. She always believed that my hard work and talent would get me far. My mother always provided for me, and she demonstrated how to survive in this life for me. I had to grow up quickly, and I feel more prepared for hardships now because of this.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me to know the difference between what I wanted in life and what I was destined for.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Sola is a persona. She’s a super hero. She’s the best version of me.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people remember me as a brave and intelligent person. That I always spoke my beliefs and shared information to those who needed to hear it.
