We recently had the chance to connect with Shelice Jenkins and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shelice, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I’m being called to lead boldly in spaces I once felt unqualified for—specifically, building and growing Providing Mothers Joy Inc. into a safe haven for teen mothers. In the past, I wrestled with fear of not having enough resources or support to make the vision a reality. Now, I realize that God placed this assignment on my life for a reason, and I’m stepping out in faith, trusting Him to provide everything needed to impact lives and break cycles.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Shelice Jenkins, and I’m passionate about helping others bring their visions to life while walking in purpose. I wear several hats—Director of Operations and owner of two businesses, including Handful of Pearls Birthing Services, where I support expectant mothers as a birth professional. I’m also the founder and Chairperson of Providing Mothers Joy Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to empowering and supporting teen mothers through mentorship, resources, and a faith-based community.
What makes our work unique is that we don’t just provide services—we create a safe space for young mothers to be seen, valued, and equipped to break generational cycles. Currently, we’re working on launching small group initiatives that offer mentorship and spiritual support, and in the near future, we plan to open a maternity home for teen moms. Everything I do is rooted in my faith and driven by a heart to serve others with excellence and compassion. Providing Mothers Joy Inc.—Where Faith meets Support.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that constantly second-guessed myself has served its purpose and must be released. For a long time, I allowed fear and overthinking to hold me back from fully stepping into leadership and pursuing the vision God gave me. That season taught me humility and the importance of preparation, but now it’s time to walk confidently, trusting that I am equipped and chosen for this assignment.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self, You are powerful, chosen, and destined for greatness. Stop shrinking to fit in and start walking in the authority God gave you. Every setback is setting you up for something bigger so keep pushing, because your voice and your vision matter.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect at all costs is integrity. Everything I do whether in business, ministry, or community work must be done in decency and order, with honesty and accountability. I believe integrity builds trust, and without it, nothing sustainable can stand.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people remember me as someone who truly cared, who saw the potential in others, especially young mothers, and never gave up on them. I want my legacy to be one of compassion, faith, and empowerment, someone who helped break cycles of hardship by offering hope, support, and practical resources. Above all, I want to be known as a woman who walked in purpose with integrity and made a lasting impact for the Kingdom.
