We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sierra Tu. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Sierra, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
First of all, I check messages or news on my phone—I believe everybody does this nowadays! Next, I get up and do a deep stretching workout to wake up every part of my body, even though my brain is still catching up… A good rest always brings fresh inspiration! Then, I usually work on the most important or challenging project in the morning, because my mind is full of energy after a good night’s sleep.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Sierra Tu, an illustrator and concept artist. My recent focus primarily revolves around game illustration and concept art, particularly environments. My inspiration is drawn from fantasy narratives, nature, and emotions. I’d like to use pencil, ink, frames, plants on my personal art.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was outgoing and extroverted when I was little, living with my grandparents in the suburbs. Those were the happiest memories of my early life—every day I had the chance to be close to nature, carefree and without worries. Maybe that’s one of the reasons I love natural elements so much. After I went to school in the city, I became quiet, calm, and sensitive. I felt that people had to hide most of their real thoughts in order to live a decent life in the busy city. So I kept my words and true feelings to myself, and began to transfer them onto my canvas.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely yes. Not only I, but most of my artist friends have thought about this too. It takes so much effort to achieve satisfying outcomes. With so many talented artists around the world—and with social media bringing their work into our daily lives—it’s hard not to notice them and compare myself. On top of that, the instability of the industry makes it difficult for artists to survive by relying only on art jobs.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes. That’s a part of me, and I respect my true feelings while also caring for the people around me in each moment. Humans are complicated and always changing, but at the very least, I try to follow my genuine feelings in the moment.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
After completing a busy work schedule, I drive to a place near a big lake surrounded by mountains, where a steaming hot pot waits on a picnic table. Together with my closest friends or family, we share the meal as the sun melts into the horizon, while the evening breeze brushes gently against our faces and hair.
