We recently had the chance to connect with Stephanie Alecia Rose and have shared our conversation below.
Stephanie Alecia, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Rest. Being able to take a moment, a few hours, or even a day to rest my mind and body. Rest has helped me with anxiety and stress. Rest has helped me sleep on some things that don’t need to take up any more of my energy. I appreciate rest. I love rest and I’m thankful to also have a spiritual rest in Christ!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Howdy! I’m Stephanie Alecia Rose! I’m an actor, director, filmmaker, photographer, and writer. I started acting and writing at a young age and everything else fell into place years later. From directing and performing on stage to crossing over to acting for film, TV, and commercial, I am truly grateful for the journey God has me on. Since 2022, my career has been progressing. At one point I had five commercials in rotation: TSET, Tulsa Teacher’s Credit Union, Cicis Pizza, Mazzio’s, and 7-Eleven! I’ve also been cast in feature films that are either released on Amazon Prime, AppleTV+, and Tubi. A few more will be released soon! As a photographer, I have been able to accomplish some things that I am proud of. Some of my work is included in a collaborative public art installation in my hometown that includes four murals. I’ve been able to photograph some great events and people as well as provide my services as a photographer to the community. As a filmmaker/director, I’ve had the opportunity to mentor the youth in narrative short film and documentary through a film camp called Keepin’ It Reel: Script 2 Screen founded by Dr. Tamecca Rogers. It’s truly been a gift to teach and inspire the youth through filmmaking.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
When my brothers and I got home from school on April 19, 1995, my dad had us sit and watch the news report of the OKC Bombing. That day forever changed me as a kid. I’m from Tulsa, Oklahoma. I still remember the front page of the Tulsa World the next day of the firefighter carrying the little girl. As a kid, I learned quickly that there are people in this world who do not care about my well being and to always be aware of my surroundings.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Girl, you are killing it! Even though sometimes it was scary, you got through it and you still are! You are an inspiration! Your encouragement to others contagious so don’t stop! Keep going!
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
It most definitely is! I’m grateful that nothing has changed me for the worse and that I always strive to be a better version of myself. My family, friends, and church family keep me grounded and I truly appreciate all of their support and love. They help me so much in so many ways and I pray the days comes that we can all reap the rewards of my labor.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I pray that when I’m gone, people remember my kindness, support, and love. We still live in a society where some people think only for themselves. Sometimes people don’t feel supported and receive abuse rather than kindness. However, there are some of us who are kind and supportive. Thinking of others and being there for others is so important. Love is the chief. If that’s what people remember about me, then I’ve served my purpose.
