We recently had the chance to connect with Trini LaShawn and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Trini, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Thank you so much for the opportunity to share my story. I stay very busy with the work I do for my spiritual practice, but lately I’ve also been investing a lot of time in my fitness routine. I made a commitment to myself a year ago to get physically fit. My mom and I were very close and since she passed about 3 years ago, I’ve reflected on the many times she encouraged me to stretch my body each day and remain physically strong as I age. I workout every other day, and I love it! Not only do I feel closer to my mom as I remember her advice, but exercising also boosts my mood. I stay active supporting my children who both play sports, and my lab mix, Dalilah, keeps me active as well. For me, staying committed to my health and wellness is an important act of self-love.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a tarot reader and spiritual worker. I work with energy to channel tarot readings for my online audience and clients who book personal sessions with me. I also create sound healing sessions and other content that promotes healing and growth on the spiritual path. I combine my spiritual gifts and knowledge with the very real life lessons I’ve learned throughout my life. With everything I do, my goal is to help others realize that no matter what they’ve experienced, it’s their willingness to be here and to continue to evolve that makes them so beautiful and worthy of a fulfilling life.
On my YouTube channel (In Her Dreams) I share tarot readings and sound healing sessions. I have an additional channel (In Her Dreams ASMR) with healing sessions that help listeners relax, release anxiety and get a good night’s sleep. On my website, I offer healing ritual blends that I create by hand (intention oils and bath salts) that nurture the aura with healing vibes and help strengthen one’s sense of self-love and their connection with the Divine.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
As a child, I always felt powerful and free whenever I was alone in nature. Growing up, I knew I was loved, but my home was rather chaotic. I spent most of my time alone and always felt at peace whenever I was outside. I never really felt understood by most of the people in my life, so I sought the comfort of nature. Now I realize that going outside so often was my way of gaining clarity and bonding with the Universe. I felt free, uninhibited and perfectly in tune with nature – the trees, flowers, insects, wind and sky. It was the only time I ever felt free of worries and I always felt like my true self. Now at age 44, I still go outdoors to ground myself and reconnect with a sense of calmness. My relationship with nature has always been an important element of my self-care.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I love this question because I’ve often considered what advice I would give to my younger self. I would reassure myself that deep down inside, I already knew which choices to make and that my intuition was truly trustworthy. When I reflect on my past, I realize that every decision I made that resulted in pain or regret, I already had a hunch and knew the best move to make. But, I doubted myself. In some cases, I was stubborn and impatient – desiring an immediate outcome or manifestation instead of trusting divine timing. Thankfully, on my spiritual path, I’ve grown to understand my intuition much more. I honor my inner knowing by tuning in and trusting myself and the guidance that I channel from the Divine as I make both big and small decisions in my daily life. Over the years, this has had a profound impact on my confidence and stress levels – I enjoy life much more now than I did in my youth.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
This is something I’ve been working on consciously – to embrace my authentic self on a deeper level. I’ve set a goal over the past few years to let my masks dissolve. As an introvert (INFJ on the Myers Briggs), I often felt uncomfortable in social settings, ever since my youth. Growing up, whenever I was around other people, I often imitated my mother who was naturally charming, outgoing, sweet and very graceful in social settings. I would watch her light up a room whenever she was at church or with friends. I usually felt awkward around most people that I didn’t know, but I wanted to be liked. So, I acted like my mom to be accepted by people that I didn’t know very well. This has been somewhat of a mask for me. In my most natural state, I’m very kind, quiet and at times ridiculously silly. I do love to debate when I’m very passionate about a topic – usually pertaining to social justice or human rights. In my 30’s, I set a goal to let myself be me – my true self. My journey on YouTube has definitely helped me accomplish that goal. I always enjoy creating much more when I just let loose and let myself be who I am naturally. I love that I’m always a work in progress – accepting and loving my true self more each day. I choose now to give myself permission to be the real me.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
My legacy is my main motivation and the true reason why I do what I do. During my 17 years as a classroom teacher and my 5 years as a tarot reader, my mission has always remained the same: to encourage, inspire and support others to love who they are and to have courage to do what they feel called to do. That’s what I hope people will remember about me – the energy I’ve given to others to motivate them to love who they are and to live in their truth, no matter what wounds or obstacles they’ve experienced.
