Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Tsitsi Hungwe

Tsitsi Hungwe shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Tsitsi, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I’m most proud of the self work I’ve done behind the scenes and my consistent effort to grow and become a better version of myself.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Dr. Tsitsi Hungwe, Founder of Higher Mountaintops, LLC. I’m a dentist, early professional career transition coach, keynote speaker, corporate trainer, and a two-time Amazon bestselling author of 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: 𝐔𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟔 𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 journal and 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐔𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐝: 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 anthology.

Higher Mountaintops, LLC exists to help early professional women move beyond the indecision, frustration, and disappointment that may accompany career crossroads. We help them prepare for their next career chapter with clarity and confidence whether they are starting, advancing, or pivoting into new career paths. We do this through coaching, leadership training, keynote speaking, and professional assessments.

At the height of my dental career during the pandemic, I felt a pull for something more. While seeking networking and mentoring opportunities, I connected with Cedrick LaFleur, Dr. Nicole Rankine, and Angela Hooper-Menifield—whose mentorship and support through a business bootcamp helped me lay a solid foundation for what became Higher Mountaintops, LLC. That journey of discovery, personal transformation, and my transition into entrepreneurship is the story I share in greater detail in my chapter of the 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐔𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐝: 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 anthology. My mission is to help early professionals navigate career transitions so they can move forward with clarity and confidence – and thrive in their next career chapters while honoring the endings that made their growth possible.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My dad. He’s shown me through his own example what consistency looks like and how important it is to have a growth mindset.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes. I had to retake my dental boards several times, and there were moments when I considered giving up. But I chose to stay the course, believing I could succeed and standing in that moment with courage. That experience shaped me.

Now, when I meet students and professionals who have experienced failure whether with an exam or their own boards I’ve had the opportunity to share both empathy and perspective. I’ve told this story in conversations and speaking engagements and it’s a story I highlight one of my signature talks: Stay the Course and Reach Higher Mountaintops. Each time, it has encouraged others to keep going. That experience also continues to remind me that I can overcome challenges and achieve what I set out to do.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I believe we all have boundless potential and there are higher mountaintops to reach in casting a bold vision for our own future, personal growth and career advancement The key to reaching those mountaintops is consistency. In my journal 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: 𝐔𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟔 𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬, I share how steady, intentional habits, not quick bursts of intensity create lasting success.

While each of our personal journeys in life and the timing may vary, the principle remains the same: keep showing up, keep investing in yourself, and keep moving forward. Higher mountaintops await, and consistency is how we get there.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
The core of me would still shine through with my joy, my smile and laughter, and simply me, ready to add value to others.
