We recently had the chance to connect with Twinkle Zaman and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Twinkle, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I try to be very intentional with my mornings. I’m a big coffee lover so the first thing I do when I wake up is run to the kitchen to start my coffee. As my coffee is brewing I do my morning face routine. Once I pour me a cup, most days I will go back to bed to sip on my coffee, while I journal, read, or check emails. I try not to check emails and really let my mind relax. Sometimes I will meditate. I kind of go through phases of that. Once I’ve finished my coffee I get dressed for my work out and head to the gym.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’ve recently finished writing my very first novel. It’s a coming of age story. I think the readers will be able to recognize the authentic inspiration behind the book. There’s definitely a strong female voice. There’s a cool thing about the storyline and how you get to see how the two main characters worlds intertwine along with the love story. The characters often mirror each other and the repeated imagery is pretty neat in the novel. It’s definitely worth the wait for when it comes out! I’m pretty stoked about it
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I think I was about 21 years old when I first had that feeling. I remember having certain experiences where it was so different from what the other kids in college were doing. The very reason people go to college to go find themselves and what they are supposed be/do, I was ironically finding myself within those moments. It felt like I was finding my purpose and identity for the first time in life. You know all those things people dream about in their 20s. As I’d continue living my reality and going to school and someone would say “oh my gosh you missed this yesterday”. I never felt like I was missing out on being a kid. I knew in my gut I was on journey to becoming whoever I was meant to be. At that age and in that time period that was a pretty damn powerful feeling.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I think everyone has pain. The more life you live the more wounded you probably are. I’ve always been a writer and storyteller at heart, since I was a little girl. Once I got a little older and reconnected with that part of myself again I realized that this is the stuff people relate to. Everyone is just trying to be understood, everyone is just trying to be heard, and writing felt powerful to me. It was a way to convey a message that I probably wouldn’t know how to do any other way. It allowed me to be vulnerable and stop hiding those messy parts. Our words hold power.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
It’s a version of me I would say. I’m very shy and introverted naturally, but when I need to be I can be outspoken and extroverted. I’m very deep and analytical but that’s definitely not how I’m perceived by people who don’t know me. As far as my values go there isn’t a public or private version. I’m very serious about my beliefs and I make sure I hold myself accountable no matter where I am.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
I have always been a firm believer in chasing my dreams or goals. If I truly believe in something I’ll chase it. I usually don’t hold back, anything I’ve wanted to do I do. I would hope down the road I have no regrets because I’ve given 110% to everything!
