Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Wanda Gaines of Lakeland

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Wanda Gaines. Check out our conversation below.

Wanda, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Yes, I’ve been recently nominated to receive a visionary award for an upcoming event.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am the founder of New Outlook Events, a brand that transforms celebrations into unforgettable experiences. Rooted in faith, culture, and creativity, my work blends elegance with meaning—whether through bold event design, VIP experiences. My mission is simple: to bring joy, connection, and beauty to every occasion. I am working on bringing more awareness to my brand.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationships that have most shaped how I see myself are the ones I have with God and my family. My faith gives me direction, strength, and a sense of purpose—it’s the core of who I am and the vision behind everything I create. Being the youngest of five children also grounded me in resilience, humility, and love. Together, those relationships have taught me to lead with compassion, celebrate others wholeheartedly, and see every challenge as an opportunity to grow. They’re the foundation of my life and the heartbeat of New Outlook Events.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
It seems that the apprehension of public embarrassment has significantly impacted my life. While I’ve managed to navigate it in some instances, I haven’t fully conquered it, which prevents me from pursuing some huge endeavors that I believe could be rewarding or worthwhile.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
My mother’s authentic nature fosters a deep appreciation for others, coupled with a generous and forgiving spirit. She embraces life with humor and enthusiasm, demonstrating remarkable resilience and an outgoing, vibrant personality. Her inner and outer beauty are equally apparent.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I sincerely hope that I will be remembered as someone who genuinely cared and cherished the time spent with others. Furthermore, I aspire to be known for my efforts in assisting others and making a positive impact, ensuring that I am not forgotten. Additionally, I hope to be remembered for my honesty, trustworthiness, and the sense of gratitude I embraced. I strive to be a positive role model, consistently demonstrating kindness. In essence, I wish to be remembered for my capacity to love deeply, learn from every experience, and accomplish meaningful things.
