Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Xochitl Flores

Xochitl Flores shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Xochitl, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Absolutely in our town’s First Friday 20th year celebration SpeechlessArt Art was selected to be part of their legends video

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We are Speechlessart, two non verbal autistic artists who might not be able to use language to speak but they can certainly express themselves through their artwork. Speechlessart is continually evolving and that’s because both of our young entrepreneurs are putting themselves out there in our art community .

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
By the grace of God being a parent. Both our boys are now autistic and they definitely see the world differently and it’s been such an amazing experience to see the world as they see it. Senses are amplified for our boys or the opposite too. It’s a rollercoaster of a world through their eyes but simple and beautiful.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I don’t there was a time to ever give up but there was a time that I questioned what we were doing and why were we doing it. If doing what we were doing was for myself, to make myself feel good, to be powerful , to be known?, then these were all the wrong reason to do what we do. So I asked God, “ Is this something that can better show others about your love and mercy, is this something that will bring others closer to you?” We didn’t want to do this for acknowledgement from others we wanted to do this to inspire others.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My friends would say my faith is number one and my family next.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
If our name, role and possessions would be laid down, our love for Christ would remain on fire.
