We recently had the chance to connect with Zane Zwicker and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Zane, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I’ve recently been planning my next body of work a lot, trying to stay consistent with working on new music for that. I can’t always be productive though, so in between the music I’ve also been playing a lot of Battlefield 6 with my friends online. That, and going out with my girlfriend for some good food in our neighborhood is pretty much the normal day right now.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Zane, but I produce, sing and write under the name ‘mindysounds’. I’ve been making music for just over 10 years now and I mostly make electronic and indie-pop music. I have two full albums under my belt that had zero label or publishing backing, and they’re both very different and unique in their own ways. I started out making EDM music in 2015, then in a desire to explore more of my potential as an artist and singer, I transitioned to making pop/hip-hop music in 2019. Currently I’m starting the prosses of writing my third album to be released in 2026. I plan to make it an exciting new taste of the now nostalgic sound of 2010s era pop/dance-pop music. I really want an album that people my age can listen to and feel like it’s just like the music they had on repeat when we were kids.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I think I look for those moments everyday. couldn’t put my finger on one, but, I feel like lots of my experiences have shaped my world view, especially in the world of music.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I don’t have many fears honestly, but I would say just being an extreme introvert has definitely held me back. It’s just the fear of social interaction I guess, but I think it’s pretty obvious that that would be a horrible trait to have as an artist. All of the networking parties, music events, and live preforming; all of which are supposed to be your best friend as an artist. I just hate the awkward social stuff, and I’m not good at it haha.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely, I don’t think I’ve ever not been myself. On or off camera, behind a microphone, it doesn’t matter I’m not interested in putting on an act.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
For sure, I think about it pretty often actually. The idea that, if my music never got heard since I started doing it 10 years ago, would I have kept going? Or if no one ever hears it again, would I keep going? The answer is yes, I will always have to make music, even if it’s just for me to listen to. I think ever since I started making music I could never stop doing it.
