Lindsay Benjamin discusses How To Be The Love You Seek by Dr. Nicole LePera

We’re excited to chat with Lindsay Benjamin about How To Be The Love You Seek. Check out our conversation below.

Lindsay, it’s so good to be connecting again, this time to discuss one of your favorite books. So – let’s jump right in, can you tell us about How To Be The Love You Seek – what should our readers know about this book?
This book discusses how to dig a little deeper into your traumas, grief, family experiences, and much more. It discusses exercises and how to navigate through it to find not only a deeper sense of self love, but the ability to maintain relationships in a more fulfilling manner.

Great, so maybe you can get into a bit more detail about why this book feels relevant to you and perhaps you can touch on any lessons or insights that resonated with you?
I’ve been through a lot of trauma in my life, and unfortunately some of it was unforeseen. I’ve had to manage grief for the entirety of my life, and felt a bit like the ‘survivor’ of my family. I feel that my trauma has affected my relationships in varying degrees. It’s only thing to become aware and comprehend the things you need to work on, it’s another to action it. I think sometimes the hardest part is knowing what to do with what you have learned about yourself. Sometimes just figuring out what steps to take is more difficult than the awareness of the issues themselves.

After reading the book, if you had to boil it down to one key take-away, what would it be?
Lean into your darkness. It’s the only way you will find the light on the other side.

Have you read other books that are similar to this one and if so, what are those books and what did you like or find interesting about those?
Not sure how similar this is, but I read a book called, “Marry Him! The Case for Settling for Mr. Good Enough!” By Lori Gottlieb. As a 30 something single woman who is eager to find love, I found it eye opening, and fascinating. I think more people should read it. It opened my eyes to understanding that I’ve had unrealistic expectations for my partners for years now. Reading her book provided more insight into why I am single, and how I can go about making positive changes in that area of my life where I feel I lack. It really changed my life.

Where do you get your work ethic from?

We’ve all heard the phrase “work hard, play hard,” but where does our work ethic
