Linnette Harrigan shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Linnette , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
In recent years, I’ve been inspired to begin documenting significant life events and stories around me especially since the 2020 “pandemic” era.
I believe it was in this particular time period, I was led to my calling right now as documentary filmmaker.
Though I’ve always had interest, I never saw myself as a filmmaker in the past. I found the whole process of filmmaking quite daunting.
After putting in much time, study and attending the New York Film Academy, I was able to overcome my filmmaking fears. I completed my first film documentary, a musical short titled “Cook That Wrote The Book” back in 2022 which follows the life of Ms. Sylvia Elbaz, the late pioneering and singing cook, nutritionist and television host.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Prior to becoming a documentary filmmaker, I had spent most of my life in music business. I started out as a trained Musician, often working as a Lead and Background Singer and a Songwriter. I sang and toured with a number of artists and productions, some famous, others were less known. Later in my life, I also held positions more on the business side of music. I worked for companies and also worked independently as a Music Supervisor and as a Writer/ Producer in Film and Television.
My company, LINNETTE HARRIGAN MEDIA INC has been operating for more than a decade. Since 2022, we’ve turned much of our attention to producing music themed documentary films that explore various topics in the music world and which resonate particularly with women audiences.
“Elevate Your Music” is a catch phrase we use at L. Harrigan Media. It’s a reminder on the importance of music and the role that it often plays in life. Music can lift the spirit, sparks creativity, it even has the ability to bring calm in times of sadness and so much more. We like to send out this message regularly to followers, connections and friends reminding them to keep elevating and incorporating good music in their daily lives.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child and also as a young adult, I always believed that men were the smart ones. I believed men were the bosses, directors, the ones in charge. I never really saw women that way. Today, I’m proud to say, I no longer hold that belief. Being an active member of such groups as NEW YORK WOMEN IN FILM AND TELEVISION, a professional organization which supports and works to advance women like myself in film, television and digital media has helped a great deal.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
If I had to choose, I think it would be a fear of failure that probably held me back most in my life. Because of this fear, I would often shy away from being the leader, talk myself out of opportunities and would also insist on waiting until the “right time” to move forward. Fortunately, I began to work on myself some time ago both mentally and spiritually, which made all the difference in my confidence and can be seen later in my accomplishments.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
For the past 3 years, I’ve been working on a feature documentary film. It’s a big film with great music and includes some really famous names and people.
I can’t say much about it at this time, but I’m very committed and very excited about it.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
After my life journey has completed, I would love for people to remember and speak highly of my talents as a musician, a singer, songwriter and also as a music supervisor, producer and filmmaker.
But even more than that, I most want to be remembered as a woman who lived in her PURPOSE!!!
I want people to say that “Linnette A. Harrigan was not only a woman who achieved great things in music, she was love and light!
Linnette shared her gift of music with the world in various ways! She inspired many and made the world a more beautiful place with her voice, creativity and her presence.”
