Lisa Moore shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Lisa , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
What’s bringing me joy lately is watching Blaze of Hope and the Gold Movement grow into something that’s touching lives far beyond what I ever imagined. Every conversation, every billboard, every family we reach feels like another spark of hope in the world. It’s deeply personal for me, and I’d love to share the story behind why this mission matters so much to me.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Lisa Moore, and I started 501c3 nonprofit Blaze of Hope in honor of my sweet son, Blaze, who was diagnosed with liver cancer at just 7 months old. We spent almost every day in the hospital until he passed at 13 months. I was able to be there for every moment because my community lifted me up with love, prayers, and financial support.
But I saw too many parents facing the same heartbreak without that support. Families are forced to choose between staying with their sick child or paying their bills. That’s why Blaze of Hope exists today: to give families the hope, support, and resources they need so they can focus on loving and caring for their child.
Recently, we launched an exciting new initiative—the Gold Movement—in partnership with the 1Voice Foundation. Together, our mission is to unite families, nonprofits, and communities across the globe to raise awareness for childhood cancer. Through powerful campaigns like our Times Square billboard and global landmark lightings every September, we’re shining a light of hope for every child and family affected by this disease, making sure their stories are seen and their voices are heard.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
When I was a young teenager, I went on a missions trip to Jamaica. I spent my days volunteering at an orphanage, painting and repairing homes for people who had so little, and helping in schools and churches. I was humbled to see that, even in such great need, the people we served showed so much love and joy. That experience changed my life. It created a SPARK in me, a servants’ heart and that spark has never dulled. I knew then I wanted to spend my life helping, serving, and loving others with everything I have. That spark is what later fueled Blaze of Hope and the Gold Movement, because my purpose has always been to meet people in their time of need and lift them with hope.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The deepest wound of my life was losing my son Blaze to cancer. That loss shattered me in ways I can’t fully put into words. Healing hasn’t been a straight line, it’s been a journey of learning how to carry the grief while still choosing hope.
I’ve found healing by turning my pain into purpose. Blaze of Hope was born from that wound, to give other families the support I wish every parent could have. Through Blaze Of Hope and the Gold Movement I’ve been able to honor Blaze’s legacy by assisting families in their greatest time of need and shining a light on childhood cancer worldwide. Helping others doesn’t erase the pain, but it transforms it into something that can heal hearts—including my own.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I deeply admire Dr. Larry Baucom, Pastor of Suncoast Community Church. For 27 years, he has been a constant source of love, compassion, and encouragement through every season of my life. He walked alongside me during Blaze’s life and his battle with cancer, offering unwavering support and guidance. His wisdom has shaped my faith, his kindness has strengthened my heart, and his example has inspired me to lead with grace. He is not only a remarkable pastor, but also a trusted friend, and I am endlessly grateful for his presence in my life.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope the story people tell about me is that I loved wholeheartedly and without hesitation. That my unwavering faith in the Lord guided everything I did—that I was the person who would stop and pray with you right in the middle of life’s chaos, who would encourage you when you felt unseen, and inspire you when you felt stuck. I hope they remember that I sparkled and shined, not because life was perfect, but because I chose joy. That I was spunky, vivacious, and full of life, and that my heart for serving others left a legacy of hope, faith, and love that lives on in the lives I touched.
