Logan Fulcher shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Logan, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I am building a digital copy of the Earth that sits on top of the real one, so that games, overlays, and “a metaverse” can actually exist with coordinates in the real world. At least, that’s what I tell people. It is my real job, but we’ve been on hold for the past few months… Freeing me up to embrace AI. I’ve used it to create my own cast of “artificial” characters who star in sci-fi shorts, music videos, and more. Along the way, I’ve learned how to edit video and will be expanding into “video collage.” Best. Job. Ever.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My life has been an adventure. I grew up poor in the middle of nowhere in Nebraska. I went to college for free based on my essay about the nature of reality. I moved to Japan for a year. Came home, became homeless. Illegally immigrated back to Japan with frequent flyer miles. Met my wife in a week. Bought Bitcoin early. Started my own company, failed. Became a priest. Expanded a sex chat empire. Became a crypto millionaire. Gave it all up (and was robbed) moving back to America during the pandemic – for family. Now I’m here.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Sure. Kevin Spacey is a pervert. Yes, the movie contained significant “ick.” I know. But “American Beauty” challenged my thinking of the world as a 15 year old boy. I’d observed beauty, but prior to that movie, never actively. I had a rough upbringing, and identified with the character Ricky, who’s life was similar to mine, but he lived with so much more boldness and “productivity.” It made me want to be an artist and capture what I could see/experience.
What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
You can do everything right. Try harder than everyone else. WANT IT MORE. And still fail.
Then, when things don’t work out, we blame ourselves, blame others, and sometimes everyone else. As an American, I was raised to point the finger, and it took me ages to learn that you’ve sometimes got to point your finger at the universe. Socrates was right, “Sometimes s**t just happens.” There’s a lesson or two in there somewhere.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
They have to speak up, even if their voice cracks. Now more than ever.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If immortality were real, what would you build?
The most powerful weapon in the entire galaxy, for my own self-destruction, because I will have been driven mad by the endless tides of time – stealing away the lives of my loved ones, all my good memories turned against me like an army of ghosts, watching the ‘grand meaning’ crumble more and more with every fallen empire.
That, or a game that would wipe your memory then let you live a random person’s life – from any point in history. Us immortals would goof around in there, all vying to get the highest score.
It’s a toss up. Maybe both.
