Wonderful, so can you talk to us in more detail about why this book resonates with you?
So, I Married My Shadow: Poetry & Reflections represents a deeply personal journey for me—a journey through some of the darkest chapters of my life and the struggle to find healing and hope when my marriage felt on the brink of despair. This collection of poems and reflections that explore the emotional depths many of us experience, as well as the shadows we confront and the moments of clarity and grace that follow. It’s more than a story of hardship; it’s an acknowledgment of the cyclical nature of growth, much like the sun’s own phases of intense activity. These cycles of light and darkness mirror the highs and lows in our lives and relationships, revealing how illumination can bring new understanding to our deepest struggles.
In the book, I delve into the esoteric themes of death and resurrection—not as literal ends and beginnings but as the shedding of parts of myself that no longer served me and the emergence of new facets of my being. Self-reflection and self-examination became essential companions on this path, helping me confront and heal trauma that I hadn’t fully recognized. By facing my own shadow—the hidden pain and unresolved wounds—I began the process of healing and transforming. Each poem became a tool of understanding, a fragment of my soul reaching toward wholeness. This journey represents an ongoing transformation, making this book a testament to the power of embracing and integrating all parts of oneself.
How did you feel about the ending? Was it satisfying? Disappointing? Unexpected?
The ending of So, I Married My Shadow: Poetry & Reflections reveals a profound realization: that self-actualization is possible through deep self-acceptance and forgiveness. Each poem and reflection throughout the book helped me uncover hidden aspects of myself, showing me that real transformation happens when I meet these parts with compassion. This journey reflects the wisdom of the Sephirot, the divine qualities of wisdom, kindness, strength, and humility. As I began to embody these attributes, I saw that my inner growth reshaped not only my perspective but also the world around me. With a renewed sense of compassion and strength, I found that my responses to life had changed, bringing harmony and a greater understanding to my relationships and experiences. Embodying the Sephirot taught me that true change begins within, bridging the gap between our flawed human experiences and the divine potential that resides within us. The book stands as a reminder that by integrating our shadow and embodying the Sephirot’s traits, we have the power to create ripples of healing within and beyond ourselves.
Have you read other books from LVF LVX? If so, which others do you recommend and can you tell us a bit about those?
The first book, Tapes in Drag: Poetry & Remorse, was more than just a collection of poems—it was the beginning of a deeply personal journey into self-reflection and the shadow work that would later follow. Writing it allowed me to pour out my experiences of love and loss, the bittersweet ache of a relationship that wasn’t intended to last, and the lingering remorse of “what ifs.” In Tapes in Drag, I let the rawness of heartbreak and longing fuel my writing, realizing that these feelings were not just painful—they were also powerful tools for transformation. This book was where I first encountered the shadows within, and it became a catalyst for exploring my inner world more fully. This journey into poetry became a way to start healing from within, and it ultimately set the stage for a deeper exploration of self-acceptance and integration in my later work.
