We’re looking forward to introducing you to Marvin Jobs. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Marvin, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’ve recently rediscovered playing guitar, and it’s been bringing me a lot of joy. I’ve been picking up my Fender Nashville Telecaster and challenging myself to learn new songs while playing around with different sounds. It’s such a fun creative outlet, and I love how it helps me slow down and feel grounded—especially on days when I’m stressed or overwhelmed. Getting to focus on the music really resets my mind.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Marvin Jobs, owner and sole maker behind Cavalier Goods Co., a small leather goods studio based in Toronto, Canada. I make every piece by hand myself, from wallets and belts to watch straps, notebooks, and custom orders — everything is made one at a time in my studio.
What makes Cavalier Goods Co. special is the commitment to heritage craftsmanship and ethical sourcing. I use high-quality full-grain leathers (including exotic and specialty leathers when possible) and design with timelessness in mind. The goal for me is not to just make goods that serve its purpose well, but that are designed with thoughtfulness and that are beautiful at the same time, so that my customers hopefully want to pass it on someday.
Right now, I’m focusing on expanding the bespoke side of the business, offering more personalization options, and refining my leather selections. It’s a labour of love, and I love that it allows for creativity in design and real connections with people who appreciate quality, handmade goods.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was when I went on a solo world trip at 19. I’d never really travelled on my own before, and suddenly I was flying around the world for almost a year — through Southeast Asia, New Zealand, Samoa, and the US. It was the first time I’d ever been so independent, navigating new cultures and challenges on my own. I remember this deep sense of confidence growing with every step — that I was capable, adaptable, and free. That’s the first time I really remember feeling powerful.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be: just do it, whatever it is you want to do. Don’t overthink, don’t wait for the perfect moment. If you put your mind to something, it usually works out somehow. The key is to just get started, because once you take that first step, things have a way of falling into place. You can’t plan for everything, and that’s okay. The important part is to just take the first step.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
A belief I’ve always held onto is that good work takes the time it takes. In my leatherwork, I never rush a piece or cut corners, even if it would save me hours. If I’m not genuinely proud of the result, I won’t sell or give it to a customer. Time is valuable, but what matters most to me is the integrity and quality behind my craft; that’s the foundation my brand is built on.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people remember me as a kind and reliable friend — someone who’s honest and always there when others need support. I also hope they see me as a creative person, passionate about many things, whether it’s leatherwork, travel, books, music, good food, or coffee. Ultimately, I hope the story they tell is of someone who lived fully, cared deeply, and shared that energy with the people around them.
