Mary Louise Scott on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Mary Louise Scott and have shared our conversation below.

Mary Louise, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Right now, my normal day is every morning, I’m making coffee, watching the news, while helping get my granddaughter to school. I check all of my email accounts and messages. Then it’s off to work, and once I’m done with that, I begin with classes and save my creative work for last.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’ve been writing stories for over 30 years, and acting for almost 20. Recently, I started voice acting, and now I’m a part of an upcoming video game. There has been so much going on with creating episodes for both Pocket FM and Exit Valley TV Series, which you can watch on my YouTube channel.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I would have to say my creative side. I discovered that I could write at the age of 12, and it just blew up. That is, until things started going wrong. Things seemed to keep happening to me or getting in the way, just life circumstances, and I always felt defeated. I would get in my own way and sabotage when something good happened. When I was younger and through my young adult years, I was weak. and insecure. Now, I’m fighting negative thoughts, voices in my head, and other forms of negativity.
I know that I’m a great writer, and I’ve learned to trust and not let anything or anyone break me again.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of failing and not becoming anything, not being able to leave my mark and be known. It has been a very long and hard battle trying to get my work noticed and even harder to get an agent or manager, which I so desperately need.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, I’m very real as I never believed in posing as different sides of one’s self as they say. I believe that you should be your true self. One thing that I never liked or approved of was people not showing or being who they really are. I’m not a fan of the “honeymoon phase”, as they call it in relationships or otherwise. It’s always best to show your true self.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m absolutely doing what I was born to do. I’ve always been creative, even as a young child, but I just never imagined that everything I’ve dreamt of would come true. I’ve accomplished everything I’ve set out to do as far as my dreams and goals. Now. I’m making new dreams happen.
