We recently connected with 171 Ophélia and have shared our conversation below.
171 Ophélia, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
171 Ophélia is a brand-new music band, and the three of us are bursting with inspiration and big dreams. Our collaboration feels effortless, we bring our own separate influences and combine them all together and everything just clicks. Staying creative isn’t really a challenge right now. Even though we’ve all been in other music projects before, this feels like the start of something fresh, like the beginning of an exciting journey. So, yeah, we’re in our most creative phase to be honest, working on our first releases, and we can’t wait to share our music with the world.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Our band was named after an asteroid, which was itself named after Shakespeare’s famous heroine from Hamlet. Just like our name suggests, our music has a deeply atmospheric character, blending trip-hop and alternative influences with experimental elements from both Western and Eastern traditions.
At this stage, we choose to keep our identities somewhat mysterious—at least as much as possible—so that our music can travel first, allowing people to get to know us through the sound we create. What excites us most is the idea of taking our music to new places, playing for new audiences, and forming meaningful connections through our songs. We have a very clear vision of where we want to go as a band, and we are working intensively to bring that vision to life.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most important qualities that define us are patience, perseverance, and hard work / dedication. No matter how much talent someone has, it’s difficult to move forward without these three. Music is a challenging path—it’s not a career choice for stability, but something you choose because your soul can’t do otherwise. In a way, you’re born with it. Without patience, perseverance, and dedication, you fail before you even begin. We don’t claim to have all the answers—we’re still working on ourselves, constantly learning and evolving. The only piece of advice we can give is simple: never give up. Keep pushing forward, work hard, and never stop dreaming.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Our biggest achievement over the past months hasn’t been our live shows in different places or the incredible experiences we’ve already had—it has been learning to merge three completely different personalities and musical backgrounds into one unified vision. Each of us comes from a different musical environment, but we share the same dreams. Ultimately, it was the fusion of these three perspectives that officially gave birth to 171 Ophélia just a few months ago. In this short time, we’ve shaped a distinct musical identity that we’re incredibly proud of. We can’t wait to share our first official releases with the world—so wish us luck on this journey, and hopefully, we’ll see you soon at a live show!
