We caught up with the brilliant and insightful 2SIQ a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi 2SIQ, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
My whole life, I’ve been really connected with my imagination. When I first saw a Chris brown music video as a child, I thought it was really cool, and inspired me to dance as well. As I grew older and went to highschool, I started experiencing that I was shy with girls and didn’t know how to talk to them. This is when I discovered Jason Derulo, and began writing poetry. During highschool, i met another person who also wrote poetry, but they also mentioned that they record music as well. So that’s where I got my start recording vocals at a friend’s house. As time progressed, I moved into my own place, and started building my own home studio. Having music on iTunes was not a goal at the time. But as I grew older, and continued composing music and buying better equipment- I realized that I’ve invested a lot of money into building my studio, AND I’ve been gradually learning and getting more optimal with the DAW Logic Pro x. That’s when I started to consider taking music seriously. I ended up releasing my first song Lightyear’s Homecoming on all DSP’s through SoundCloud. I put a lot of time, and learning into composing music without really realizing it. I was just ADHD hyper focused on learning a thing that really interested me. I wanted to learn how to make my music compete with industry professional music, so I dedicated a lot of research on how to give my music the polish it has today. Now I can say I’m confident in mixing and mastering other artists’ music, and I’ve been able to freelance work through TikTok – where I direct message users who follow my account and offer them a free sample of my work as a first-time client. Once they hear the outcome of my work, they message me back, and I get to name the price. On my website, I charge mixing and mastering for $25, but I’ve been trying to build my portfolio, so I’ve been giving first-timers discounted prices
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am 2SIQ, I compose music, and I am the founder of SupaSiq Records. The main focus of SupaSiq Records is creating quality music, and promoting services like mixing and mastering, and live recording. On the website, you can also find all information for 2SIQ including tickets/events, and merchandise (coming soon). I am also an active street dancer in Mesa, AZ. I dance in DownTown Mesa in front of Pedal Haus, across from main burger. I will create some dance clips for my music firstly , and then I will cut the camera and play some popular music to gain some attention and spread positive vibes. My hugest motivation for street dancing every Friday in DownTown Mesa, is that all the tips I’ve gained from street dancing- it’s all gone to a savings account intended for my inevitable trip to Japan one day! All the tips I’ve received from street performing have gone to my Japan Trip savings! I am also looking forward to perform in different states. September 23rd I perform in Vegas, and next spring, I could potentially perform in Brooklyn and even Florida, however the travel expenses are the biggest obstacle. So that’s why I said there’s a potential I could perform there, I just don’t have the savings for it yet.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Audio Engineering. Learn how to speak professionally and with intention. Everyday is an opportunity.
Every day is an opportunity to build. If you can’t write much music, writing one word can be enough, the next day you will have more ideas. Everyday build on one thing and eventually you will create a habit of being productive. If it’s not one thing you can work on, then make sure there’s something else you can work on, like maybe brainstorming a rollout of a new song, or putting together your cover art, or recording some videos for later.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
It’s the coach k book “Leading with the heart”
Key points
Establish discipline
Change your game plan. “If something isn’t working, switch things up” something along the lines of that
There’s strengths and weaknesses. Understand your teams strengths and play towards those strengths.
