Meet Aalexa Young

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Aalexa Young a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Aalexa, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

At the age of 20, I gave birth to my second child in 2018. When I was younger, I had high hopes and desires, but I also unexpectedly found myself in a different reality. I was overweight and unhappy with my relationship. I felt like I was a single mother carrying the weight of an unpleasant relationship, to put it mildly. I could hear my inner child yelling, “What are you doing?!” While I was leading a mediocre existence. I’ve always wanted to be a model, an artist, a well-educated businesswoman, and a fit mother of happy and healthy kids. Sincerely, I wished for the best for myself.

I eventually had enough of how I was feeling. I made the decision to rescue myself, and I carried it out. I recognized that the first day of the transition was about my health! I have to begin with myself! I gave it my all, and I still clearly recall failing miserably at making vegan, low-carb pancakes and having to run three times down the street to acquire various, as-yet-unknown ingredients. Casually burning a couple cakes at home until I got something edible, haha. As long as I continued to be persistent, things got much easier and I was learning things quickly which built a secure space for me and restored my self-confidence.

I had no free time to go to the gym. When my babies slept, I would sprint around my apartment complex and watch the most difficult fitness videos I could find on YouTube. This was difficult and pushed me into the following phase, which is consistency. Consistency arises from the value we place on ourselves and our future. Step one gave me confidence to be consistent because I knew I could accomplish it. I lost 35 pounds in 4 months !

Phase three: Discipline! I breastfed my babies, therefore they never received formula. I fed them a nutritious diet, and as a result, my children stopped craving harmful foods and became relatively vegetarian. Following self-trust and consistency. The next task was discipleship! I had a lot of duties on top of the new life/self I was establishing. When life got too much for me to handle, I had to acquire discipline. I had to persevere or everything I had worked for would be in vain, and that was enough to get me through my difficult days. This rendered me unstoppable.

I subsequently began to take employment that would benefit my future self. I was starting to study makeup artistry. I started working as a beauty consultant for MAC and Walgreens. I’d work on-call for MAC and part-time at Walgreens. I always had two jobs. I worked as a line cook in a healthy restaurant. I started working there to learn how to prepare delicious nutritious meals. I worked both jobs until I was promoted to Kitchen Manager at BAM, and I used my Walgreens and MAC rewards to build my cosmetics collection. As a makeup artist, my clientele grew significantly over the next few years. Things rapidly started to change for me! I once took a leap of faith and committed to transforming my life.

6 years later, i reached every last one of my goals and became a full time makeup artist. I reached my fitness goals and i was operating with resilience without even thinking about it! I was already in me by taking theses simple but challenging, BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE steps.

I feel this is the recipe for becoming your most powerful self and effortlessly resilient. Self-trust leads to confidence. Confidence leads to determination, which leads to discipline. And that is the key to building strong and unbreakable resilience. Then the world is practically yours. That is the actual “law of attraction” recipe. I challenge you to try it. 🫵🏽

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a self-taught professional makeup artist named Aalexa Young. I am the owner and operator of AYBEAUTY Makeup Artistry. What fascinates me most about makeup is how transformational it is and its similarities to art but in human form. Makeup creates a different reality of emotions and confidence, which is one of my favorite things about my career. I love seeing the joy and excitement in my clients’ faces. I have studied all areas of makeup artistry over the last 7 years. My favorite category is special effects! Though it is very time-consuming, It is So alluring how you can shapeshift into something only seen in your imagination. While also giving the world something new and fresh.
Another thing I have learned to love while being on my Entrepreneurship journey is the art of business. Building a business from the bottom was challenging but rewarding. I have learned a lot of key things that assist in building a sustainable and respectable brand. With my love of spreading joy and confidence to women. I host an annual Women in Business Tea Party. Where a group of powerful women can meet in a space of encouragement and wisdom. The WIB Tea Party is not only an informational event but a spiritual one as well. Being a single mother running a full-time business has its downsides. No matter what you believe. There are rules and there is a formula for showing up as your best self. No matter how you slice it. There is a secret power within all of us. This power comes from a strong sense of self, where there isn’t a limited belief. Where we can build a resilient life to lift us on our bad days. It’s the essentials if you will, to becoming what we need to reach our goals. Tips and tricks on maintaining this superpower. From laughs to maybe even a few tears the WIB Tea Party is truly a groundbreaking event. Out with the old and in with the New. At the end of every tea party, we have a live butterfly release for our guests. It is truly a beautiful occasion.
One thing I speak about is wealth. Regardless of your definition of wealth. The true measurement of wealth is how resourceful and impactful are you. What can you provide to help other people? How great is your impact? Once you can figure out how you can help people, wealth comes. And how positive that impact is, will determine your success. With that, I will be expanding AYBEAUTY by giving other creatives a safe place to learn grow, and build their careers with the information I’ve gathered through my journey. I am 26 years old and I know I can and will help creatives dominate in life. We contribute so much and essentially create multiple perspectives in this world. Which creates an evaluation in everyone’s mind. If you would like to be apart of a powerful team or even learn more about your craft. Go to www.aybeautymua.com. Go to the creatives tab and tell us about yourself and some of your goals. Talk to you soon .

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Top 3 most important things I’ve learned as a business owner. The most important thing is the self! Think about what it takes To reach your business goals. Exaggerate a little… now ask yourself if I know that my success involved running 3 miles. Would you start training now or later? The hardest thing is not starting it’s how you start. Do not wait till you’re rich to show up as your best self. Eat right, train, and educate yourself on how you can do that now! Do not wait for more time to do the paperwork or to make it to The gym! You are only going to get busier. Prioritize these things NOW!

The second thing I believe has extremely impacted my career is dedication.
I knew i wanted an over flow of clients. So i took every opportunity that made sense with my goals. And honestly i didn’t know what all aligned with my goals. I had to experiment and try new things. BE FEARLESS AND CONFIDENT in your craft. You may think you can’t be good at everything but your going to be surprised rather if your good or not, i garentee you’ll gain some new information! It’s all in the recipe. I’m thankful to say I’ve actually done well in a lot of the opportunities i took and i am grateful to been able to learn more about myself by taking every opportunity.

Lastly, i strongly recommend having a company policy that applies to you and everyone on board your new business plan. Creating and keeping a polished business model and reputation is key! But it’s also important to remain relatable to your audience. Know the difference and balance the two. Keep it appropriate and your personal life PERSONAL.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
