Meet Aarohi Bansal

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Aarohi Bansal. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Aarohi below.

Aarohi, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

Art has always been a core part of my life, ever since I was a child. Illustrated books and animated films fascinated me—not just the stories, but the vibrant characters, colors, and the art of visual communication. I was always drawn to illustrated books at school scholastic fairs, intrigued by how pictures could tell stories. This early fascination with visual storytelling led me to pursue graphic design in college, as it was the field closest to illustration.

Initially, the world of design felt foreign and overwhelming. However, the guidance of inspiring professors and mentors helped me see design from a new perspective, blending art and functionality. Their support fueled my growing passion for illustration, and I realized I wanted to create artwork that resonates and stays with people as they grow.

In 2022, I took a significant step by pursuing a Master’s in Illustration. This journey has been about honing my skills and finding ways to influence others positively through visual narratives. My love for illustration has only deepened, and I am committed to creating art that can inspire and impact lives in meaningful ways.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am an illustrator and graphic designer from Indore, India, where I grew up in a warm and loving family. My passion for art was evident from a young age, and when it came time to choose a career, I naturally gravitated toward the arts. I pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, where I immersed myself in learning about design, Indian culture, and its rich visual history.

During my second year, I created a picture book about superstitions surrounding the color black and the prejudice against darker skin tones—a personal issue I faced growing up. This project ignited my love for visual storytelling and propelled me to focus on illustration.

For the past two years, I have been refining my skills and developing my unique voice in illustration, working tirelessly to carve out my place in the industry. I have some exciting new personal projects and commissions lined up. I’m also open for collaboration and freelance illustration.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Learning about form, typography, color, and tactile material exploration has been crucial in my development as a designer and illustrator. Design and illustration are interdisciplinary and can’t be perfected by focusing on a single skill. For anyone starting out in the art and design field, it’s essential to observe your surroundings, study art history and existing cultures, and continuously work on your skills. Finding your own voice is a journey that involves constant learning and adaptation. I would also say that working in the industry taught me the most. Those were hard lessons, but something that I have come to appreciate nevertheless.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Yes, I am definitely open to collaborations, especially with freelance opportunities in illustration. I’m particularly interested in working with picture book writers and publishers looking for freelance illustrators. Additionally, I’m eager to explore editorial illustrations and animations. I’m looking to expand my portfolio with both 2D and 3D illustration projects. If you’re interested in collaborating, you can connect with me via [email protected] or through my website. I look forward to creating something amazing together!
