Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Aaron Corbitt . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Aaron , thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?
My self discipline comes from myself. Discipline was the result of the absence of discipline. I couldn’t achieve any of the goals I envisioned without it, so I merely began completing the tasks that were required of my goals, no matter how minor or miserable they were without questioning my comfort or the detriment to any passing convenience. Over time, my strength of discipline became core to my being. Alas, none of this matters without passion. So my self discipline really evolved from passion.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m an artist, musician, writer and filmmaker. I paint original and commissioned artworks in acrylics. I’ve produced and performed with many musicians in the last 15 years. I’ve written and illustrated two children’s books, one published through Amazon. I’ve produced and directed a short film “Beware! The Hitchhiker” that premiered in January 2022 at the historic Polk Theater in Lakeland Florida. The film is also available on Amazon Prime. My focus is creating quality in whichever medium I’m obsessed with at the time, and will continue no matter the odds stacked against an independent artist in this day and age.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most important qualities that have impacted me are learning to keep an open mind, listening without needing to reply and facing limitations with determination.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was to foster my creativity without censorship.
