We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Aaron Norris a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Aaron, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

You’ve Got to remember one thing! There are hundreds of thousands of people that may indulge in the same profession as you. but no one is you! you may be able to reach a niche of people that others can’t. where your at in your journey someone may be able to relate to you, there in that point of time. as opposed to someone higher up! so for me i remind my self these things and that if i can inspire just one person to be great! Then ive done my job.

“Shearperfection” is Brand! a brand based of off modern/classic & digital media side of barbering. offering a tailored service to anyone who sitting in our space. it’s a creative studio where influencers can come grab a hairuct and immediatly hop on a podcast episode or video/ photoshoot in our creative area! integrating the art of barbering and digital media.
These years we are focused on a few things!
bringing to the world our line of products soon! as well as teaching at the wake tech barbering program. looking to offer online education soon, alongside creating our first Studio! here in raleigh nc.
My Team and i are super excited for these up coming event so stay tuned!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The most impactful qualities/ Skills i’d say: you have to have discipline the late nights the long hours you have to have the discipline to continue to promote yourself and market yourself though social media.
which leads me to my next answer a skill set that has helped me through my journey are photography/ videography/ editing. all things that cost loads of money, but if you can do these things and market yourself in way it will propel you light years ahead of where you’ll want to be while also saving thousands of dollars.

How you can develop and improve on these is by simply practicing going through the trial and error period where things aren’t gonna look great at the beginning or it’s take your hours and hours to edit a 10second video. keep pushing through these point because it gets easier and faster. lastly find your vibe figure out the type of perosna you want to display and stick to it! it’ll change as your evolve and grow but stick to the core of how your operate and do things.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

The brand is currently looking for barbers who are”hungry” to get better and improve everyday not only Barbering / but creatively someone who’s not affraid to learn and market themselves via social media!
someone who wants to be apart of a team a family of people who will strive get better and make each other better day in and day out! passion is most important because as well all know barbering is no walk in the park, it’s very demanding on our time. time away from kids and family. time spent on your feet all day. so it’s important that you have a natural passion.
