Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Aarushi And Amishi Rohaj. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Aarushi and Amishi, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Music has always been the way I keep my creativity alive. Whether it’s listening to music, singing, learning a new song on the ukulele, performing, or creating new mashups with my sister. My parents wanted my sister and I to have a connection with our Indian culture which is why we were trained in Indian classical music. As we grew up we continued to keep up our musical hobbies and began mashing our Bollywood culture with pop music. And now we continue to do that and perform our mashups at local events!
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Aarushi is currently a second year medical student at the University of Utah and Amishi is a pre-medical and business student at the University of Utah as well! Both of us were born and raised in Salt Lake City and have been involved with music, performing, and singing before we began to walk! Aarushi wanted to attend medical school for as long as she could remember and volunteering at Hope Lodge and working at the Huntsman Cancer Institute only affirmed her desire to pursue a career as a physician. Amishi is on a similar journey as a pre-medical student. We both hope to use our musical talent to alleviate our future patients pain in conjunction with traditional treatment methods with a focus on mental health.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
We both agree that being passionate, determined, and never giving up are the three most important things that were the most impactful in our journey! Finding a goal or something you are passionate about makes working towards it very enjoyable. Journey’s can be very hard but staying focused and never giving up no matter how difficult the path gets.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
I cannot express how grateful I am to my parents. They are our biggest supporter in everything that we choose to do. Anytime we are performing our parents are always our biggest cheerleaders. We both believe that having our parents by our side has been the most impactful thing they have done for us. Whether we are feeling up or down they are always there and we couldn’t be more grateful for them!
