Meet Abbie O’Brien

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Abbie O’Brien a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Abbie, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
I teach hot yoga and practice hot yoga. I consider this a form of art (that goes hand in hand with my career in Graphic Design). It’s a way to disconnect from the emails, the hustle – the everyday busy. It’s encourages me to become more mindful by focusing more on the breath – not on the workload I have. Starting my days with a little inspiration of gratitude, movement or breath work and I instantly have a more creative day.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
By day – I own a Graphic Design Agency that is focused on building brands visually. From designing logos, to websites and marketing collateral, I always like to say I’m a creative problem solver. I create memorable designs, which help elevate brands and build audiences. As I enter my 4th year in business, I’m launching a new business name and new messaging that is more customer-centric. Even the most powerful brands continually evolve. This year, we’re bidding farewell to our old business name, Abbie’s Design Studio and embracing a brand new identity that truly represents who we are. Say hello to The Branding Den, where creativity meets strategy.

On a personal note, I’m a mom of two BUSY toddlers. I enjoy hobbies – travel, golfing (just started playing in 2023) and yoga.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Talent, Experience, Listening.

Just get out there and create. Take constructive criticism and move on to your next project.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
I’m a one-woman shop so I wear all that hats in the business. Block time to work on your business (vs in your business). Take time to develop a new process if something isn’t working. Working smarter – not harder is a game changer for me.
