Hi Abdallah, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

Overcoming imposter syndrome has been quite a journey for me, especially being from Brazil and now living and working in the US as a filmmaker and entrepreneur. When I first started, I often felt like I didn’t belong, constantly comparing myself to others in the industry. But I realized that my unique perspective is my biggest asset. Embracing what makes my work distinct—my background, experiences, and personal storytelling style—helped me, and still helps, to build confidence in my abilities.

Continuous learning has also been a key part of this journey. The media industry is always evolving, and staying updated with the latest trends and technologies is crucial. Whether it’s mastering new editing software, understanding the latest in user-generated content (UGC) trends, or exploring innovative storytelling techniques, I make it a point to keep learning. This not only enhances my skills but also boosts my confidence.

Celebrating small wins has been essential to me. It’s easy to get caught up in the big picture and overlook the little achievements along the way. I make sure to acknowledge every milestone, no matter how small. Each successful project, positive client feedback, and new skill acquired serves as a reminder of my growth and capabilities.

Focusing on the impact of my work has also played a significant role. Seeing the positive reactions from audiences and knowing that my work resonates with them is incredibly validating. Whether it’s engaging videos for brands or narratives for social media, the impact of my work keeps me motivated and confident.

Lastly, taking care of my mental and emotional well-being is essential. Practices like mindfulness, regular exercise, and setting aside time for hobbies help me stay grounded and reduce the anxiety that often comes along with imposter syndrome.

By acknowledging my achievements, continuously learning, and focusing on the unique value I bring to the table, I’ve been able to push past imposter syndrome and fully embrace my role as a filmmaker and entrepreneur. It’s about recognizing that I belong here and that my work has value.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Hi there! I’m a filmmaker and entrepreneur from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, now based in San Diego, California. I run Io Project Media, where we specialize in creating Story-driven advertising content for brands. What excites me most is capturing real, authentic moments and turning them into engaging stories that connect with audiences.

One of the most special things about my work is the ability to blend my passion for travel, sports and storytelling. I love bringing these stories to life in a way that connects deeply with viewers.

We’re also working with user-generated content (UGC) to help brands genuinely connect with their audiences. This approach not only makes the content more relatable but also builds a stronger community around the brand.

We’ve got some exciting new projects and expansions coming up, including collaborations with major brands. Stay tuned for our upcoming campaigns—we’re pushing the boundaries of traditional advertising and bringing fresh, innovative content to the table.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back to my journey, three things really stand out: storytelling, adaptability, and networking.

Creating unique stories has been a game-changer for me. It’s not just about capturing moments but making them resonate with people. For those starting out, focus on the human element in your stories. Practice by creating content that tells a story, no matter how simple. Study great storytellers and understand the emotions behind their narratives.

The media world is always changing, and being able to adapt has been crucial. Whether it’s new technology, trends, or client needs, staying flexible has helped me stay relevant. I like to be open to learning new skills and pivoting when necessary. Embrace change as an opportunity for growth.

Building a strong network of peers and mentors has been incredibly valuable. These relationships offer support, feedback, and new opportunities. For new filmmakers, seek networking opportunities through industry events, social media, or professional groups. Don’t be afraid to reach out and make connections.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Yes, I’m always looking for people to partner or collaborate with. I’m especially interested in working with other creatives, brands, and companies that are passionate about storytelling and creating engaging content. I’m also very open to collaborating with other filmmakers and videographers who are eager to learn and share their experiences. Building a supportive network is really important to me.
