Meet Abhinay Pandit

We were lucky to catch up with Abhinay Pandit recently and have shared our conversation below.

Abhinay, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I believe that the saying “no pain, no gain” is powerful. I also think that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. When I face difficulties in my personal or work life, I trust that it is a natural law and that it will ultimately lead to something good.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a Cinematographer originally rooted in Mumbai, but my creative journey has been nurtured by diverse locations across India, and I am currently situated in America. Over time, I have expanded my skills and honed my craft in photography and video editing. Currently, I am gradually exploring the realms of directing and writing, while my deep-rooted passion remains centered around cinematography.

I really enjoy visual storytelling, like paintings or photos, that convey emotions and feelings. It’s amazing how looking at these can make me connect and feel a certain way.

Being a cinematographer doesn’t confine me to my role; I’ve extended my skill set into directing. A recent example of this is my short dance film “makara.” This film delves into the intricate connection between sound and the human body. One of my enduring goals was to craft a dance piece devoid of any musical accompaniment. Through collaboration with Tejasvi, we transformed this vision into reality. Tejasvi shared my enthusiasm and was eager to dance to live music, and together, we brought this concept to life.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Embrace humility, embrace learning from various sources, and here’s a quirky one: immersing myself in film photography unexpectedly brought discipline into my personal and professional realms, causing a significant positive shift. Experiences are subjective, and opinions vary – while some might resonate with my journey, others may differ. The crucial factor is commitment, attentiveness, and maintaining your path; by doing so, you’ll undoubtedly reach the goals you’re striving for!

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
I’ll be concise – their unwavering care, love, and backing.
