We recently connected with Abi Adekitan and have shared our conversation below.
Abi, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from a combination of my faith, life experiences, and the values instilled in me over the years. My faith in God is my anchor—it reminds me that I am beautifully and uniquely made, and that challenges are just stepping stones to something greater.
Life hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge has taught me strength, adaptability, and perseverance. Whether it’s navigating business, supporting my community, or raising my daughters, I’ve learned that resilience isn’t just about bouncing back it’s about growing through what you go through.
I also draw resilience from the people I serve. Seeing others overcome difficulties inspires me to keep pushing forward. Plus, I’m intentional about building resilience through learning, surrounding myself with positive influences, and practicing gratitude.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am Abi Adekitan, an independent trainer, facilitator, public speaker, and author passionate about empowering individuals through knowledge and skills. With over 16 years of experience in Human Resources and more than a decade as a trainer, I specialize in soft skills development, focusing on resilience, communication, and personal growth.
I am the CEO of Abi Star Consult, where I provide training and coaching programs for individuals and organizations across various industries. Through my initiative, Iree Pathway, I empower youth and women with practical skills, such as fashion design through Sew Fashion Sew Fun and an upcoming sublimation class for creative expression. Expanding skills programs under Iree Pathway remains a key focus for me, as I believe in equipping people with practical knowledge that can transform their futures.
As an author, I have written two books designed to strengthen relationships:
160 Ways to Say I Do Again—a book for married couples looking to deepen their connection.
Foundation of Forever—a book for singles who are dating or considering marriage soon.
Both books are available on Amazon and have been used as conversation guides to help individuals and couples navigate their relationships with intention and clarity.
Beyond my work in training and coaching, I am deeply involved in community service. I volunteer at my local church and serve on the board of several nonprofit organizations, using my expertise to contribute to causes that uplift individuals and families.
As a guest speaker, I engage audiences on topics such as resilience, personal growth, relationships, and empowerment. What excites me the most about my work is the opportunity to inspire change—whether it’s helping someone gain clarity in their relationship, coaching a professional to develop resilience, or creating programs that empower the next generation. My journey has been shaped by faith, resilience, and a desire to see others thrive, and I look forward to continuing to make a difference in meaningful ways.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are faith in God, resilience, and effective communication.
1. Faith in God – My faith has been my foundation, guiding me through every season of life. Trusting in God’s plan has given me strength, wisdom, and peace, even in uncertain times. The Bible says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6). I believe that true success starts with aligning yourself with God’s purpose for your life. My advice to those starting their journey is to develop a deep relationship with God—pray, seek His guidance, and trust that He will lead you in the right direction.
2. Resilience – Life is full of challenges, but my faith has taught me that every trial comes with a lesson and a purpose. Resilience isn’t just about pushing through difficulties but about growing through them. I’ve learned to rely on God’s promises, knowing that I am beautifully and uniquely made for a reason. For those beginning their journey, I encourage you to lean on God during tough times, surround yourself with people who uplift you, and never lose sight of the bigger picture.
3. Effective Communication – Communication has been a key tool in my work as a speaker, trainer, and coach. Being able to express myself clearly, listen with understanding, and connect with others has allowed me to build meaningful relationships. My advice is to pray for wisdom in your words, practice speaking with confidence, and be intentional about how you interact with people. Good communication opens doors and strengthens connections.
For anyone starting their journey, I’d say: Stay rooted in God, keep learning, and never give up. Life is a process, and while challenges will come, God’s grace is always enough. When you walk in faith, stay resilient, and communicate with purpose, you’ll find yourself moving toward the destiny He has prepared for you.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was instilling values that have shaped my character and approach to life.
My mom taught me never to be jealous of anyone but instead to be genuinely happy for others and celebrate their successes. This mindset has helped me build meaningful relationships and find joy in uplifting others. She also taught me the importance of kindness and helping people. Growing up, our home was always open to others—different people lived with us, and she treated them with the same love and care she gave her own children. Watching her extend kindness so effortlessly has deeply influenced my passion for community work and my desire to serve others.
My dad taught me to be firm and always alert to the people around me. His wisdom helped me develop strong discernment and the confidence to stand my ground when necessary. This lesson has been invaluable in both my personal and professional life, helping me navigate challenges and make decisions with clarity and confidence.
Together, my parents instilled in me the values of generosity, resilience, and discernment, which continue to guide me in everything I do.
