We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Abi Levine a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Abi, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
“No one wants me” is what I was thinking when I was 11 years old, standing in front of the headmistress of my boarding school as she told me my mom wasn’t coming back to get me and they were placing in foster care.
I went through an unpleasant (to put it mildly) 6 years and when I emancipated from foster care, things just got worse.
Until I was a homeless single mom (for the 4th time) and I suddenly realized I’d been blaming my abusers for my decisions for too long, and I had to take responsibility for myself. I realized no one was coming to save me. So I would have to do it.
I decided: This will NOT be the end of my story.
I started a healing journey, became a hypnotherapist and within a few years I had been voted the best hypnotherapist in Los Angeles five times in a row.
It was then I decided to get into money mindset, mostly to help me with my own wonky relationship with money, and that’s when really big things that happening. I was able to 25 X my income and since then my clients have made over $1.5 billion. To date, I have the best results in my industry that I know of.
So my resilience came from a simple decision: That no matter how many times life knocked me down, I would always get back up One. More. Time.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Success looked like burnout and sacrifice, and still not quite being able to get ahead. But now? It looks like earning up to $50k a month while spending my mornings in peace.
There are so many false narratives in society about what is and isn’t possible for us, and being a bit of a rebel, I decided not to subscribe to any of them.
I see beautiful, gifted people suffering their lives away in jobs or businesses they hate, when they could be making more money, working less and doing exactly what they came to this Earth to do. (Which, spoiler alert: Is the original grand design!)
My absolute dream of a day-to-day life is helping these people create exactly what it is their heart longs for, without a decrease in lifestyle, in the most effortless way possible.
I’m here to shake sh*t up, empower people, and put Earth on a path to cohesion and collaboration (small dreams, ya know?! LOL)
I do this in a variety of ways, and I lean on neuroscience, biology and physics to support these tangible permanent shifts for people, in a way that seems “impossible” and definitely magical, but is fully explainable in science.
I have a new mini-course coming out called “30 Days of Manifesting” which is only $30 and that’ll get a few extra thousand in the bank just in time for the holidays!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three biggest things in my journey were mindset shifts:
1) Responsibility: I had spent all my life feeling like I was powerless. To my trauma and reactions to people. To my body – it felt like I was at the mercy of what my body wanted. To my life. I felt so small and pathetic.
When I finally decided that I get to be the one to decide what my life looks like, I took responsibility for abdicating my power and assigning it to people & situations outside of me.
Although it hasn’t been perfect, I know I am at choice for my responses to things. If an unexpected thing happens, I can move into solution-finding rather than collapse. I can control where my money goes and be in charge of generating more of it. I decide!
2) Healing my relationship with money: Coming from so much poverty and being raised in a third world country (South Africa) I had a distrustful relationship with money at best, and downright bitter and hateful at worst.
I knew I wouldn’t be able to make more money until I worked through my beef with it. It was definitely a process, but now money and I are ride-or-dies. I know deep down into my bones that it has GOT me.
3) Healing my codependence: Being that I was neglected as a child, I had the hyper-independence version of codependence. The “I don’t need nobody” chip on my shoulder.
But even still, I also had the very typical caretaker, over-giver profile of a healer, and felt like solving the world’s problems lay solely on my shoulders. That felt like too much, Every time I would take a step towards my purpose, I would become so drained from overgiving, I would have to isolate and rest for months.
Healing my codependence did wonders for creating balance.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am absolutely looking for folks to collaborate with.
The people I’d love to collaborate with are people who are supporting communities of people in some capacity and they notice the narratives around scarcity of money (there’s not enough, it’s always running out, I can’t afford, I’m afraid of how much it’s going to cost) or around feeling small and useless.
I want to bring empowerment and very practical processes and tools to empower these people and create a wave of all ships rising with the tide!
