Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Abigail Caddy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Abigail , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic is a natural part of me. It’s part of my overall makeup. It effects my kindness, it effects my drive, it effects my tolerance, my love, it’s in all of me.
Nothing worth having comes easy. Love is hard. Life is tough. These are all cliches that we hear. I love what I do as a chef but it takes hours of dedication, sweat and hard work. I love being a mother, I love being a partner. All of these things mean I need to have a drive and dedication to put my head down and attack my work and all tasks as efficiently as humanly possible. One of my co workers said I feel like you have 30 hrs when the rest of us have 24. I said only because I create the other 6.
My parents had their own businesses but they didn’t balance it all and things managed to fall through the cracks. I want to lose as few things in the cushions as possible!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I Abigail caddy, originally hail from The Hamptons, and am affectionately known as the mayor of Sag Harbor and a self-appointed menu critic. My culinary journey commenced at the age of 14, teaching farm-to-table cuisine to children and paving the way for my career as a private chef.
At 24, I made the transition to Florida, diving into the world of Yacht Chef. In my initial two years, i garnered accolades like the Best in Show at the Newport Charter Show in 2019, drawing inspiration from my loved ones for award-winning creations such as “New England seafood and grits.”
In the wake of the 2020 pandemic, which sent shockwaves through the world and maritime life, I ventured into freelancing, enriching my expertise across diverse palates and cuisines. In September 2022, alongside my husband Gavin Caddy, I founded Curated by Caddy. Just a month later, in October, I showcased my skills on Food Network’s Chopped, earning the title of Chopped Champion in the episode “Too Yacht To Handle,” Season 55, Episode 9.
Specializing in land and sea catering, chef placement, meal prep, and events, my husband and I seamlessly navigate the culinary seas, all while I continue to travel on yachts, crafting unforgettable menus for my discerning guests.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Drive, kindness/humility, and overall love. These 3 things have allowed me to take on challenges when I didn’t know if I was ready. They gave me the ability to center myself and focus. And love of what I do and those around me has pushed me to always want to be better.
I don’t know how others can best improve but I do know that we all have a responsibility to ourselves to find what makes us calm at our core while not
Being asleep at the wheel of our own lives.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My husband was a huge part of my growth. Gavin has not only been my partner but he was my support system when I didn’t know what it was like to have one. He also gifted me a family that made me want to activate and realize all of my dreams of being my own boss and having a full life beyond my wildest dreams.
As a little girl I was told I couldn’t be a wife, mom, and chef. But that’s just not true anymore!
