We recently connected with Abioduni Martin and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Abioduni , thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
My younger self has always been optimistic… Growing up for me wasn’t an easy way of living; however, I have always been able to turn lemons into apples. I’ve always been a forward thinker and curious about the future. Education played a big role in my optimism and curiosity. Reading books was my escape from my reality. I was able to dream and explore new ways of thinking by just reading a book. Books took me to faraway places; I never could have imagined visiting. In my findings, I discovered that flying like Peter Pan only takes one happy thought. The moment I was able to achieve that thought was when all the doors in heaven opened.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Abioduni Martin my parents are from Nigeria I was raised in San Francisco California; I now reside in Atlanta Georgia where my sign company dew.com.co is located. I am a Graduate of Grambling State University class of 2005. I have a BS in computer information systems. I enjoy traveling the world, reading and spending time with my lovely lady Tressy and my family.
I was lucky, to get into the signage industry. The signage industry is not the typical industry you want to be a part of, when people asked you when you were a kid; what do you want to be when you grow up? A sign guy didn’t come to mind. Most people I’ve encountered in this industry come from legacy, they are 2nd and 3rd generation sign and wrap shop owners. you have two options in getting into this industry you become a legacy, or you are introduced into it. I was introduced 10 years ago, and it changed my life for the better. My company DEW does everything from design, print, and installation. We install channel, letters, and fleet graphics on vehicles and commercial tents on storefronts. The most interesting part of my business and the joy I get out of working in this field is the clients. I solve so many of their problems when it comes to marketing their projects from a physical standpoint. At DEW we are able to assure the consumer that they are in good hands, and we will do everything for them to make the process as seamless as possible. I believe what sets DEW apart from my competitors is we are transparent about the process and how we charge the consumer, we are educators, and we provide top-notch service.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Public speaking is definitely one of the many skills I’ve developed over the years, it’s an important tool well selling a product or convincing someone to see your vision. Building relationships, genuine relationships with people, and being of service to them. This skill has set me apart from others who always have their hands out instead of being a helping hand. Giving is my favorite skill set, I use this on a daily basis. Giving always you to share your skill sets and time with the ones that need it the most, this skill has been the most impactful in my life. I encourage everyone to give more of yourselves to others. I believe this is a true testament to success.
