Meet Ada The Creator

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ada The Creator . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ada The Creator , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I like to believe my purpose found me. The reality is we spend the rest of our lives unfolding and redefining what purpose means to our personal journey. My purpose finds me every time I return to self. Everytime I am intentional about honoring my creativity, my self, and my freedom.
In detail, I always wanted to create. I was freely an artist as a kid. Theatre, singing, acting, writing, hosting, cultural performances… you name it. However my background had me convinced that those could only be hobbies and overtime I just stopped.
My family relocated to New York from Nigeria, I was devastated about starting high-school over in a new country and riddled with anxiety. However, there, I would meet a teacher that would change the course of my life. Mr Irons saw my creativity and encouraged me to join theater, comedy improv and talent groups, he created platforms/opportunities to showcase my writings. Creativity became more than hobbies, it was an outlet, it was a space away from mental, cultural and social struggles to be myself. I just happened to have the talents for it.
My family relocated again to Texas, my last year of high-school. It was a lot different. My talents were overshadowed by my accent, cultural differences, racism, microaggressions and more. I found myself hiding away to preserve whatever hope or light I had left in myself, keeping all creative works to myself. It would worsen in college, as my alma mater upheld a structure that had no regard for black and immigrant students besides tokenism. Texas took a lot from me, in turn I poured my energy into advocacy and academic excellence.
Between 2018 and 2021, I had so many life altering circumstances. Experiences not limited to a bitter and rude awakening of the rape kit crisis, loss in more ways than one, grief, defeats, …. Creativity became a life line and I never looked back. I found the determination to hone the power of my purpose, I started a business, published a book, set out a plan with scripts, creative ideas and efforts to connect with the community.
An old African adage says, if you want to go far, move with the community. I am a misfit who has had to find her purpose through individuality. I am grateful for every guide that has supported my endeavors and encouraged me to fulfill my purpose. I am still manifesting a team as committed and the success of all creative endeavors.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Publishing SOJOURNER: A Poetry Memoir is one of the most exciting achievements thus far. It is a book everyone just has to read, for the simple fact that it will provoke the boundaries of your mind and desensitization.
Ada The Creator aspires to do a lot more. Audio books, more books, more digital contents, intertexualizing written words, performances, and scripts, to bring visual ideas to reality. All the while advocating for intersectional communities, and being to other creatives the support I need and needed.
www.adathecreator.com is under revamp. Be on the lookout for service launches. Writing workshops, how to self publish workshops … and more. Book Adathecreator for panel discussions, research interests, poetry performances/presentations/reading and so much more.
Support Adathecreator towards these endeavors by asking for published works in local libraries, shopping our merchandise, and supporting all our endeavors.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Determination, Resilience, and Introspection are core skill sets that continue to guide the qualities and areas of knowledge of my creative journey.
Determination is a fixed commitment to achieving all the goals you aspire to. Whether fantasy or real, especially because for creatives setting new parts, our checkpoints and goals can feel like fantasies. Whereby we are the only ones who see or even believe in our goals.
Resilience requires the strength to overcome any challenges in the way of the goals we are determined towards. These challenges could be any external and internal factor. It could be financial, communal, circumstantial, loss, mental health, imposter syndrome and above all it could be you. We have to honor our challenges and take the time we need to process them but resilience means always choosing to overcome.
Introspection is all about knowing thyself. It is important to take time to analyze self towards a deeper understanding of one’s mental and emotional processes. Understanding everything else you do will come easier when you are always open to understanding self.
My advice to folks on their journey is to nurture these factors or/and attributes. Work on the discipline to show up for yourself and your dreams, every time. More importantly give yourself grace where you can not. A creative path is no easy feat, be kind to your journey and self.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
My main challenge is accessing investments and a team. Most of all I achieved thus far has been through self reliance and Eledua’s grace.
A team and investments would allow more reliable and supportive means to host events, workshops, market, create; as well as connect with animators, actors, funds, videographers, models, agents, other creatives towards making visions a reality. In short a real chance to go further than I have, and give back the way I would truly love to.
