Meet Adam Martinez

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Adam Martinez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Adam, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I get my resilience from my parents and the neighborhood I grew up in. Being able to adapt and face challenges and obstacles head on

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m co-owner of East Los Musubi and owner of a new pop-up concept Yaki Boyz … ELM is our first collaborative business between my wife and I . We specialize in Los Angeles style Hawaiian street food, we pretty much serve all the food from her childhood growing up in a mixed cultured family (Japanese & Mexican). We love that we get to connect with our community and give back. Helping others is a big part of our business identity. We were featured on Lisa Ling’s HBO Max series “Takeout with Lisa Ling”. We have a couple of things in the works that we’ll be announcing soon via our instagram page and we always post any new and upcoming events there also. As for my Yaki Boyz concept I mix the Yakitori grilling experience with an OG L.A Backyard Boogie vibe.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

An important quality to have is the ability to adapt to change and pivot which helped a lot during the pandemic. It was our adaptability to change how we brought our food to our customers. My advice to anyone starting their journey,Ride the wave do what you do whole heartedly . Take your wins humbly and losses as lessons. Don’t ever be afraid of change it happens to the best of us and lastly help those in need.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

Personally when I feel overwhelmed, I first try too figure out why I’m starting feel that way, If it has to do with operational challenges then I try to troubleshoot and work through sometimes you have ask for advice fresh eyes always have allow a different perspective. Lastly we’re not robots and feeling overwhelmed can be our natural check engine light tell us we need to slow down take some time for ourselves and re-group and re-focus.
