We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Adam Schaudenecker. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Adam below.
Adam, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
There is this burning flame inside that says there is a reason I’m inspired despite others not seeing it too. I am usually always on the outside of popular convention. My stories often gather more naysayers than supporters, but I still move on and persevere. Not sure if it’s courage or denial. I get the feeling most naysayers are looking at it practically and most things I’ve tried to do have failed. I appreciate anyone who gave me criticism and acknowledged my efforts. I am very lucky to have a wonderful partner named Crystal who loves and supports me & my art. The journey is better with amazing people by your side. Got to love the love.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I began my artistic journey with film/acting as a kid studying classic comedy like Charlie Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy and The Three Stooges. I’d rewatch their films and dress up/perform as their characters. I’d make my own live plays with my family and usually direct the cast at the same time as playing a role. Acting came naturally to me. I fell in love with music as a teen; loved playing in bands and recording for the first time. The feeling of making art I can listen to was electrifying. In college I started added voice acting and sound effects to my music albums. I called them sound movies and that began a journey that led me to animation/film out of necessity; my stories were too big for audio only experiences. I wanted to show people my work in both audio and visual combined. About 10 years ago I made my first film. From the casting, producing, and editing to working with camera guys and locations; it was a new frontier for me. I’ve only grown since. Was thrilled earlier this year to have my short “Regressed” screen at the Golden State Festival/ TCL Chinese Theaters. I also just finished a new short/pilot for a new series. Started submitting it to festivals and we cannot wait to see where it goes. It’s called “Rumble Tumble” and deals with the behind-the-scenes drama of professional wrestling and what it takes to run a small indie company; from the absurd to the comedic. Excited to share this fun story and cast of characters I was lucky to work with.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Imagination is one of my biggest and best qualities. Im very blessed and thankful for it and how I see stuff no one else does. My musical skill I also do not take for granted. My projects are special because Im telling my stories and using my unique musical background to tell it with melody. My other area of knowledge is classic comedy, animation and film knowledge. I have studied the greats of Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy, Steven Spielberg, Disney and his 9 classic animators, Tim Burton. Those beautiful and unique artists who inspired so much of my own work. They ignited that flame so to speak and I strive to be as successful as I can be. I would tell people to find what lights their own fires and to hone that skill or flame. Especially trying to have your art stand out from others; Gotta believe and hone that special flame.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Financial backing for my projects and general support. It’s hard paying the entire crew out of my own pocket with no backers or financial security. Would be nice if the actors I hire or work with on my projects did the same in return: I love acting still and can help elevate anyone’s cast/crew in front of camera or behind. I would like to network better with producers who have money to spend/more contacts in the industry. I feel shameful starting another Indiegogo or GoFundMe. My last campaign did not yield much, and it left me disappointed. Have to learn to trust people more for sure. We all need to support each other.
