We recently connected with Adam White and have shared our conversation below.
Adam , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I’ve struggled with confidence and self-esteem for most of my life. Growing up I always knew I was different. I come from a single-parent home. Being of mixed ethnicity I didn’t look like any of my family. I’m gay. This led to many years of seeking acceptance, approval, and validation from everyone around me. It wasn’t until later in adulthood that I started to question who I am, what my passions are, what brings me joy, what my purpose is. I realized then that I lost myself trying to live up to other people’s standards of who I felt they wanted me to be. Who I thought I had to be in order to feel like I belong and am worthy of taking up space in the world.
This realization ultimately led me to back to school at 32 where again I found myself different from everyone else. I was the only male. I was the oldest. I was the only queer person amongst my peers. But this time I chose to embrace my uniqueness and use it as motivation to take my power back. I felt like I owed it to my younger self to prioritize me this time. After graduating I started my business, and I faced new challenges that tested my new-found purpose. I compared myself to more experienced professionals in the industry. I convinced myself to feel unsatisfied with the work that I was producing. I constantly questioned whether I was good enough and if I would ever achieve success. Overtime the quality of my work improved. I began to feel more comfortable and acknowledge my accomplishments. My focus shifted from what I was lacking to what I was strongest at, and that mindset allowed me to appreciate myself and my capabilities. It was through this that I started to feel confident in who I was for the first time, not just within my business but as a person in general.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Adam White and I’m a licensed esthetician and owner of Homme Studio based in Seattle. I’ve struggled with my skin since a young age. I know how impactful a skin condition like acne can be, not just physically but mentally and emotionally as well. Through my own personal experience I developed a passion for all things skin – how it functions, skincare products, ingredients, and treatments. I later turned this passion of mine into a profession and now offer corrective skincare treatments to help others who struggle with their skin.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Passion – I don’t think my business would exist today if I wasn’t truly passionate about skin and helping others accomplish their skin goals. It took a lot of hard work and sacrifice to start Homme Studio let alone achieve growth and stability. My passion is the driving force.
Patience – this is important. Again, it takes a lot of time and hard work to start a business. As a licensed esthetician, I had to complete beauty school and pass state boards before I was even able to work in the industry. For me personally it wasn’t something that could be rushed. So, patience was key to getting myself through the process.
Dedication – the saying is true, nothing good comes easy. As passionate as we may be, it can still be hard to show up some days. Sometimes those days turn into weeks and even months. You have to be dedicated to power through those tough moments.
My advice for people who are early in their journey – do it for you.
Whatever it is that you’re focused on, whether it be a new career path or inner healing and growth, do it for yourself. Prioritize your goals and show up for yourself. No one will ever respect you or take you more seriously than you. Set the bar high, do the work, and give yourself the opportunity to have the life you want.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Hands down – my family, friends, and clients.
I am blessed beyond measure to have so many people rooting for me. I will forever be grateful for the amount of support I have received and continue to receive. There hasn’t been a single moment throughout this experience that I haven’t been uplifted and encouraged by those around me.
When I first started this journey my family and friends were the first people to show up for me. They had more pride than me at times, mentioning my name and my business at every opportunity that presented itself. Some of my biggest supporters now are people who I’ve only connected with recently. These people have not only changed my business and how I view myself as a business owner, but personally as well. I can honestly say I wouldn’t be who I am or where I am without my support system.
