We recently connected with Adam Wilson and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Adam with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic can be attributed to a few different things: my upbringing, my purpose in life, and my desire to accomplish and grow as a human being, business man, and artist.
My parents owned a restaurant growing up, and ran it together. All 3 of their sons worked at the restaurant and it was a huge part of each of our childhood’s – working and making money at the restaurant, bringing friends in to eat, and working together as a family. Even on holidays we would work together and eat the leftover food that we had made for the customers together. It taught me that hard work pays off, and that if you work hard enough at something it can become whatever you want it to be.
Throughout life, we all search for a purpose; something that gets us up out of bed each day, ready to conquer the day. I have found purpose in creating music. I love being able to completely put myself into a song and have that be a representation of who I am. Additionally, the ability to create something that can help someone else emotionally or spiritually is a huge driver for me to continue to pursue what I am pursuing. I want to inspire, and spread positivity through my actions and through my art, and this has turned me into a person who relentlessly pursues my craft.
Getting a taste of how it feels to inspire others and have an effect on someone else’s life gives me purpose and drive to continue to grow, learn, and develop as a human. I have made my mistakes in my life, but I have learned from them. We are all on a journey in life to become who we are and, to me, that means creating the life that I want, being a good person to others, and following my heart. These things all create a drive in me that allows my work ethic to be what it is, and gives me energy to get up and get after it each day.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
What I do:
– I do a lot of things, but I am an artist first. My main priority is making music that I think is great and represents who I am as a person and artist. I am a singer, who does a multitude of genres but who’s home base could be categorized as indie soul.
– I also work on a lot of music for TV and Film, and am on the business side of things in that aspect of the industry, so I do a lot of Music Supervision, Vocals, and Composing in that aspect. It’s cool to say that my music is all over the TV/Film space and been featured on tons of noteworthy shows, such as Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Vanderpump Rules, Married at First Sight, Below Deck, The Valley, and many more.
– I am from the Chicago land area and lived there until I graduated college where I started my mission of pursuing music full time. I moved to NYC and then to LA where I am currently based. I have performed all across the United States alongside some major acts and worked with a wide variety of artists.
– In the near future, I plan to continue creating music that inspires me and telling my story through music. I also plan to continue to score and write vocals for TV and film, and continue to spread my message of love and positivity through my music and in my interactions in day to day life.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Positive Perspective and Outlook on life:
– My mindset and ability to see the good in situations and people has brought me so much success on my journey. Additionally, just being a good person to others goes such a long way and is such an underrated skill and attribute to embody. People want to work with people who they like. Life is not always full of rainbows and butterflies, but being able to find the positive in tough situations, whether that be a life lesson or finding gratitude for how far you’ve come, allows you to keep a level head when things don’t go your way.
2. Relentless Pursuit:
– There are so many times that I could have thrown in the towel and quit. Sometimes, you have to grind and grind and grind with little to no validation. You have to be able to work as hard as you can even when no one is watching. It can be hard to see a day to day difference in what you’re working towards, but over time it starts to scream at you how much you have improved or honed in on whatever it is you are working towards. The ability to face obstacles, fall down, and get back up is so critical when you are pursuing anything. There’s no free lunch when it comes to achieving your dreams, in that no one is responsible for making it happen but you.
3. Staying True and Authentic:
– The more I get into my career, the more I see that my duty is to be able to showcase who I am and what I am about in the loudest way I can. What each of us has to offer is unique to each of us, and it is our own superpower because no one else can offer the same thing. Tapping into my authenticity has allowed me to stand out amongst the crowd – to brand myself naturally and have an energy that is refreshing and allows others to feel more like themselves. Especially in a place in LA where many people will “sell out” to achieve fame or riches, I have found a home in being more myself and encouraging others to do the same.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed I take some time alone. I enjoy practicing meditation, or going for a nice run. I find that I function best when my mind is calm and my thoughts aren’t running wild. I think every person has a different way of dealing with overwhelm. Some people may enjoy the overwhelm, or need more of it. Some people may need to steer clear of it or curb it. It’s important for us to understand how we deal with certain negative emotions and allow ourselves the space to feel what we need to feel in order to find balance again.
