Meet Addie Morgester

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Addie Morgester a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Addie, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
As someone who was once not so sure about what they wanted to be when they grew up, it took me a while to discover starting my own business as an option. I graduated college and began my career as an elementary school teacher a few years ago and quickly realized teaching wasn’t what it once was. I knew I could no longer stay in the classroom, but I wasn’t quite sure where to go next. I settled on digital marketing where I was introduced to things such as graphic design, content writing, and so much more. As much as I enjoyed the designing and writing aspect of my job, it still didn’t feel quite right. It wasn’t until then that I realized I could combine some of these newly learned skills with the creativity I grew so fondly of in the education world. This led me to a variety of projects for friends, family, and new clients which ultimately gave me the confidence to start my own invitation business. I’ve always been the type of person to keep every card I’ve ever received, so it felt only natural to create invitations and paper goods for others to receive!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am the owner and designer at Artfully Overjoyed, a custom invitation and design studio located in St. Louis, Missouri. At Artfully Overjoyed we create custom stationery and paper goods for all of life’s big moments including weddings, showers, events, and more. We truly believe that your most joyous moments should be celebrated, and we want to make sure your guests get there. All of our designs are custom which means they are created alongside the client to be exactly what they’ve envisioned for their event. No two clients are the same, so no two designs are ever the same!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
As a business owner I truly believe that I will never stop learning or gaining new skills along the way. Three things that I think are important for all business owners are excellent communication, adaptability, and grace. No matter what business you are trying to start, you will run into experiences or clients that require those three characteristics. Communication is an excellent skill to have whether it’s working alongside your colleagues, or talking with clients directly. As you grow in your business things will always be changing so it’s important to be able to adapt to whatever your new situation is as soon as you can. Lastly, you’re human so nothing is ever going to be perfect, but as long as you give yourself the grace to learn from past experiences, you can truly overcome anything.

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is someone who values the experience of their guest and wants to set the tone of their wedding early. Invitations are the first glimpse guests have into the wedding a couple has spent so long planning. Not only that, but it is also a couple’s direct line of communication with their guests so it’s important that all the proper information is included. We’ve all received an invitation or two that wasn’t the clearest, or maybe led to some confusion. My goal is to eliminate that with my clients, and I have found that client’s who want this end up valuing my work the most.
