Meet Adela Navarro

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Adela Navarro . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Adela , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience often comes from my passion, a love for painting and a drive to express myself. The setbacks are opportunities for growth in my artistic journey.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am an artist with a multidisciplinary approach who engages in a wide range of creative expressions, including painting, drawing, photography and installation. I’m from Extremadura, but I was born in 1988 in Barcelona, Spain, and since I was little I have always been driven by a passion for art. I find satisfaction in offering my artistic talents at the service of others and actively participating in projects that contribute to critical thinking within society. My educational path has been diverse and reflects my commitment to combining art with diverse fields. I have a Bachelor of Arts from the ULL (Tenerife University of Art) and a Master of Fine Arts in Education from UNED (University of Education). In addition, I have training in Business and Advertising, having graduated from the URJC (Madrid University  of Creative Communication), fusing the worlds of art and artistic management in a harmonious combination. My artistic pursuits have taken me across borders and into diverse cultural landscapes through various artist residency programs. In Mexico I immersed myself in an artistic residency at the Morelense Arts Center in Cuernavaca, where I explored the field of graffiti and contributed to vindicating the role of women in the world of urban art. In Spain, I embarked on another artistic residency program at Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (Art Center of the Basque Country), specializing in experimental painting.

Throughout my career, I have actively developed artworks, creative workshops and cooperated in social initiatives that highlight the power of art to create positive change. My involvement in projects within educational centers has been parallel to my role as an art educator, where I have had the privilege of teaching subjects such as Image Treatment and Illustration. I have continually been interested in educational and community initiatives, participating in exhibitions and competitions with notable success.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Versatility: The ability to work across various mediums and genres, showcasing adaptability and a diverse skill set.

2. Creativity: A constant flow of innovative ideas and the ability to think outside the conventional boundaries, fostering originality in artistic expression.

3. Interdisciplinary Knowledge: Understanding and integrating concepts from different fields, enriching your work with a broader perspective and creating unique, cross-disciplinary art.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
“The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron is a guide to nurturing creativity. It emphasizes two main tools: Morning Pages, daily stream-of-consciousness writing, and Artist Dates, solo excursions to inspire creativity. The book encourages overcoming creative blocks, fostering self-discovery, and embracing the artistic process. Key insights include recognizing and overcoming self-doubt, connecting with inner creativity, and establishing a consistent creative routine. Cameron promotes the idea that everyone is inherently creative and provides practical exercises to unlock and sustain artistic expression.
