Meet Adina Crawford

We recently connected with Adina Crawford and have shared our conversation below.

Adina, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Having resilience is not inherently automatic. There is a combination of your own story, the environment, the situation at hand, and genetics play a part. I get my resilience from being a go-getter and Determination.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a part-time certified Yoga Instructor who teaches a variety of different fitness activities i.e. HITT, Meditation, Balance and Mobility, Aqua Boot Camp, and various types of yoga disciplines. I feel most excited that each time I teach, I get to connect with new humans that are either new to fitness or have been in the arena for a while. It brings me such joy to see the determination, commitment, and love individuals have for themselves. My brand Deanietheyogini is unique in itself. I bring my whole authentic self to any space where I am either teaching or speaking. Joy and passion exude from every fiber of my being when I connect with others. I am super blessed to work with REI as an inclusion partner and have the opportunity to be supported on various platforms surrounding the outdoors. my latest amazing opportunity is that I have the pleasure of leading the walk, yoga, and meditation session in California for the launch of Allyson Felix’s ( Olympic Athlete Track and Field (ret.) new shoes (SAYSH) and partnership with REI. In April of 2023, I led the warm-up for Black Men Run Boston for Marathon Weekend, another awesome opportunity. Lastly, I will lead the Yoga for Black Girls Do Bike 10-Year Anniversary on the West Coast, sponsored by REI. In October 2023, I will open up the Boston Women’s 10k sponsored by REI. I am extremely humbled to have these opportunities before me A true opportunity to shine the light that YOGA if for everybody.

Fun fact: In October 2022, Adina received a Proclamation from Mayor Dominic Sarno from the city of Springfield, Massachusetts. There is now an official.”
Adina Crawford Day” every October 30th.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Authenticity, Compassion, and Willingness to grow and learn to be better. The advice I have to anyone seeking out their passion for finding their niche is to have a plan, have realistic goals, and make sure you are passionate about it so when you talk the talk and walk the walk, folks love what you do, be patient, be open to suggestions, find a mentor. If you stumble along the way, it’s okay. It is all about growth.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I have had a few instrumental folks in my journey. Those folks still are very supportive: My husband, my son, Jay Ell Alexander (CEO and Owner Black Girls Run), a host of friends (too many to name) and my students who rock with me 3-4 times a week in fitness. I am grateful. One thing I will always remember KNOW your worth.
