We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Admeishaa Bartley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Admeishaa , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I believe my resilience comes from witnessing the strength and perseverance of the Black women in my life. From my mother, who inspired me in my youth, to my sisters, aunts, cousins, mentors, and even influential social and political figures, I have seen firsthand what it means to overcome adversity. Their ability to push through challenges and make difficult decisions for the sake of perseverance has shaped my perspective on resilience. Whenever I feel the urge to give up, I look to these women and most importantly, to God for the strength and fortitude to keep going. In doing so, I strive to be an inspiration to young women around me, showing them that they, too, can overcome and push forward.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am Admeishaa Bartley, an advocate, communicator, and faith-driven content creator dedicated to empowering others. Through my platform, I merge faith, lifestyle, and social justice to help people grow spiritually, prioritize their well-being, and engage in meaningful conversations about faith in action.
What excites me most is the ability to connect with people on a deeper level. Whether through social media, writing, or advocacy, I aim to inspire transformation by showing that faith and personal growth go hand in hand. True change starts within, and my goal is to equip others with the tools to cultivate a strong foundation in their faith while also caring for their well-being.
Right now, I’m working on several exciting projects, including my upcoming soul care book, which will help believers create a faith-based plan for personal and spiritual growth, and my new YouTube series, Jesus & Justice, where I explore the intersection of faith and social justice, tackling real world issues through a biblical lens. At the heart of everything I do is a commitment to impact, creating spaces where people feel seen, encouraged, and empowered to pursue the life God has for them.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three key areas of knowledge have been most impactful in my journey:
1. Being a Student of Christ: My commitment to studying Christ’s life and teachings has shaped how I navigate the world. Rather than just knowing about Him, I strive to model His character, His love, wisdom, and ability to challenge the status quo while remaining rooted in truth. For those early in their journey, I encourage immersing yourself in Scripture not just for knowledge but for transformation. Ask, How can I live this out? rather than simply, What does this say?
2. Perseverance in Walking Alone: There have been moments when standing firm in my faith and convictions meant walking a road that felt lonely. However, I’ve learned that true perseverance isn’t about isolation it’s about trusting that obedience will always lead to greater purpose. My advice? Don’t fear solitude. Use it as a space to refine your faith, build resilience, and deepen your relationship with God.
3. Articulating Complex Thoughts for Understanding; Whether discussing government, religion, culture, or social media, I’ve found that clarity is key. The ability to break down complex ideas so that everyone can engage not just scholars or theologians has allowed me to bridge gaps in conversations that often lead to division. To develop this skill, I encourage practicing open-mindedness. Strive to understand other perspectives, not for the sake of argument, but for deeper comprehension. Healthy debate has sharpened my intelligence far more than constant conflict ever could.
For those just starting out, I’d say: Stay teachable, embrace seasons of solitude for growth, and seek to communicate in a way that fosters connection rather than division.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents have done for me is model true empathy and encourage me to be a voice for justice. I’ve witnessed them extend kindness to the underprivileged, give rides to strangers, and share their resources with people they may never see again. More than that, they instilled in me the understanding that empathy isn’t just a feeling it’s an action. They held me accountable when my actions didn’t align with compassion, teaching me that everyone is a person deserving of kindness.
Beyond their example, they also gave me the freedom to use my voice for justice. Whether it was standing up to bullies, engaging in activism in high school, or forging my own path based on my skills and convictions, they nurtured the seeds of advocacy in me seeds that I continue to water to this day.
