Meet Adomako Aman

We were lucky to catch up with Adomako Aman recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Adomako, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.

me.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My name is Adomako Aman, and I am a proud New Yorker, born and raised. My artistic journey began in the fast-paced world of runway photography, where I had the privilege of capturing the energy and creativity of front-of-house and backstage moments at shows for renowned designers like Telfar, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Desigual, DVF, Kenneth Cole, and many more. This foundation gave me a deep appreciation for the artistry and precision of high fashion.

Over the years, I expanded my work by collaborating with top model agencies, creating compelling test shoots that helped models elevate their portfolios. This experience allowed me to hone my skills in storytelling through visuals, which naturally led me to explore new mediums, including filmmaking.

In 2016, I directed and produced my first documentary, Dancing in the Dark, which is available to watch on YouTube (click here to watch). This film marked a pivotal moment in my career as it allowed me to merge my passion for storytelling with my technical expertise in visual media.

Today, my focus is on bridging the worlds of fashion, film, and photography. I am also working on my first featured titled PEACE and excited I aim to create work that is not only visually captivating but also meaningful and impactful. Through my work, I strive to celebrate diversity, innovation, and the artistry of human expression. Whether it’s behind the camera or in collaboration with other creatives, my mission is to tell stories that resonate and inspire.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, three qualities have been most impactful in my journey: curiosity, self-advocacy, and bravery.

First, I always encourage people to remain curious and never stop asking questions. Curiosity opens doors to knowledge and prepares you for the larger opportunities ahead. It’s the foundation of growth and helps you see the possibilities beyond what’s immediately in front of you.

Second, I’ve learned the importance of advocating for myself. Nobody knows your potential better than you do, and speaking up for yourself is often the key to opening doors and creating opportunities. Self-advocacy has been instrumental in getting me where I am today.

Lastly, I believe in the power of bravery and moving with the spirit of optimism. Taking risks and believing in yourself are essential. Faith is the cornerstone of success—believing that what you’re working toward is not only possible but also worth the effort.

For anyone just starting out, my advice is to nurture your curiosity by seeking knowledge wherever you can, advocate for yourself unapologetically, and trust in your ability to succeed by leaning into optimism and faith. The road may not always be easy, but these principles will guide you toward growth and success.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?

My biggest obstacle has been finding the right resources and support to create work that is truly impactful. While I’m incredibly grateful for the individuals who have supported me along the way, I know there’s still so much more I want to achieve. I’m driven by a desire to bring my ideas and stories to a larger platform, and I’m constantly troubleshooting and exploring the best ways to collaborate and expand my reach.

This journey is an ongoing process of learning, connecting, and refining. I remain focused on building meaningful partnerships and accessing resources that align with my vision, so I can continue to create work that resonates deeply with audiences.
