Meet Adriana Bucci

We were lucky to catch up with Adriana Bucci recently and have shared our conversation below.

Adriana, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

This is going to sound weird, but chronic pain is how I found my purpose. I had a wisdom tooth extraction in 2015 and everything went downhill physically for me from there. I developed migraines, TMJ dysfunction, neck pain, carpal tunnel and more. In 2018, I began a bogus jaw treatment to realign my jaw and maybe not get migraines anymore, and then I got shingles in my mouth at the ripe old age of 30 while getting my jaw realigned. I’d end up with something called trigeminal neuralgia which is nicknamed the suicide disease because of how painful it is. In January of 2019, I came across the work of the late Dr. John Sarno and his theory of the mindbody connection. Long story short, his theory is that anyone who has physical pain that persists more than 6 months, they’ve been to the doctor and done the tests and there’s no recent fractures or any tumours or anything life threatening going on, it’s no longer about the original injury or a structural abnormality. It’s actually about their repressed emotions from childhood trauma.

I didn’t believe this at first, in fact I was offended by the idea I had childhood trauma. Ironically I knew already at that point I was raised by a narcissistic mother, but I didn’t realize this was considered to be a form of trauma.

Long story short, I did the inner emotional work suggested by Dr. Sarno via the Curable app, and within 4 months I was 100% chronic pain free. This motivated me to help other people heal from chronic pain, so I became a Mindbody Coach. The more I shared my story about my late narcissistic mother and other relationships throughout my life, the more people resonated with it. So I am now a narcissistic abuse recovery coach and of course I incorporate the mindbody connection teachings with my clients.

It was a very roundabout way to find my purpose, but I had to find it somehow and here we are! 🙂

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I empower survivors of narcissistic abuse to heal, set boundaries and live life on their own terms. I’m a life coach, not a therapist, and my coaching focuses on moving forward after narcissistic abuse plus tools and strategies to gain self-trust, recognize manipulation tactics, and processing repressed emotions. A lot of the times my clients find me when they’ve already done therapy but feel like they need guidance specific to dealing with the aftermath of narcissistic abuse. I offer 1:1 coaching, as well as my B.U.L.L.E.T.P.R.O.O.F. 12-week small group coaching program. I’ve also recently created an exclusive community membership where clients can access my audio courses, connect with fellow survivors, attend monthly live events where they can ask me anything, and so much more.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Processing emotions, understanding manipulation tactics and how narcissists mess with their targets emotions, and setting boundaries the right way with a narcissist.

Processing emotions is so important. It’s scary, yes, but the more you get in touch with your own emotions the more difficult it will be for anyone to manipulate you. It’s also important to recognize that setting boundaries with narcissists is totally different than setting boundaries with normal, reasonable people. For example, if you tell a narcissist exactly what’s bothering you, you’ve given them the war plan on what to keep doing because they live to get an emotional reaction from you. This is why mastering emotions, understanding their mindset and setting boundaries with actions and not words is essential to maintaining your sanity especially after a lifetime of narcissistic abuse.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

Someone who is ready to heal and take control of their lives. Someone who is ready to do the inner work, and is tired of trying all the other things that don’t really help at the end of the day.
